Decreased branched-chain amino acids and elevated fatty acids during antecedent hypoglycemia in type 1 diabetes

open access: yesBMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, 2023
Introduction Hypoglycemia is a major limiting factor in achieving recommended glycemic targets for people with type 1 diabetes. Exposure to recurrent hypoglycemia results in blunted hormonal counter-regulatory and symptomatic responses to hypoglycemia ...

A machine-learning approach to predict postprandial hypoglycemia

open access: yesBMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making, 2019
BackgroundFor an effective artificial pancreas (AP) system and an improved therapeutic intervention with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), predicting the occurrence of hypoglycemia accurately is very important.

Enhanced Epithelial Cell Uptake of Glycol Chitosan‐Coated PLGA Nanoparticles for Oral Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Here, glycol chitosan (GC)‐coated PLGA NPs are developed to enhance oral drug delivery by enabling dual‐pathway endocytosis via clathrin‐ and caveolae‐mediated mechanisms. Alginate layering coating on GC‐PLGA further improves oral insulin delivery, achieving sustained glucose reduction in diabetic mice.

Circulating differentiated and senescent lymphocyte subsets and incident diabetes risk in older adults: The Cardiovascular Health Study

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
This study performed a longitudinal analysis of a comprehensive panel of 22 innate and adaptive immune cell phenotypes, including differentiated and senescent CD4+ and CD8+ cells, with incident diabetes risk among a U.S. community‐based population of older adults.

Depression in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes: associations with hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, and poor treatment adherence. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundWe hypothesize that depression in type 2 diabetes might be associated with poor glycemic control, in part due to suboptimal self-care. We tested this hypothesis by examining the associations of depression with clinical and laboratory findings ...

Nighttime is the worst time: Parental fear of hypoglycemia in young children with type 1 diabetes

open access: yesPediatric Diabetes, 2018
Fear of hypoglycemia is common in parents of young children with type 1 diabetes (T1D), but little is known about the specific fears that parents most often experience. Hypoglycemia fear has been associated with poorer glycemic control in older children,

On the Relentless Pursuit of an Oral Insulin Delivery System: How Far is Too Far?

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Injectable insulin preparations have far outpaced oral ones by virtue of adequate bioavailability and are driven by innovations, including insulin pumps, real‐time blood glucose monitoring, and artificial intelligence. In contrast, oral insulin delivery systems, including nanomedicines, continue to struggle and lag due to varied reasons.

Medium‐chain Acyl‐COA dehydrogenase deficiency: Pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
MCADD is a commonly inherited metabolic disease with serious implications for health outcomes, particularly in children, that may be successfully managed with proper intervention. In this review, we discuss the genetics, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatments for Medium‐Chain Acyl‐CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD ...
