Hypoglycemia in Mitochondrial Disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
INTRODUCTION: The electron transport chain (ETC) in mitochondria functions to produce energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Defects in the mitochondrial or nuclear DNA that codes for components of the ETC lead to mitochondrial disorders ...

IMPAIRED AWARENESS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA CONTINUES TO BE A RISK FACTOR FOR SEVERE HYPOGLYCEMIA DESPITE THE USE OF CONTINUOUS GLUCOSE MONITORING SYSTEM IN TYPE 1 DIABETES.

open access: yesEndocrine Practice, 2019
OBJECTIVE Impaired awareness of hypoglycemia (IAH) is a risk factor for severe hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) not using Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system.

HNF3α Targets Nckap1l and Promotes Renal Fibrosis Following Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor 3 alpha (HNF3α) is significantly upregulated in renal tubular epithelial cells of CKD patients and fibrotic mice. Deletion of HNF3α mitigates IRI‐induced renal fibrosis, while overexpression worsens it. HNF3α directly regulates NCK‐associated protein 1‐like (Nckap1l), whose overexpression exacerbates fibrosis.

Comparison of Epilepsy Induced by Ischemic Hypoxic Brain Injury and Hypoglycemic Brain Injury using Multilevel Fusion of Data Features [PDF]

open access: yesFusion: Practice and Applications Volume 10 , Issue 1 , PP: 100-115, 2023
The study aims to investigate the similarities and differences in the brain damage caused by Hypoxia-Ischemia (HI), Hypoglycemia, and Epilepsy. Hypoglycemia poses a significant challenge in improving glycemic regulation for insulin-treated patients, while HI brain disease in neonates is associated with low oxygen levels.

Retrospective analysis reveals significant association of hypoglycemia with tramadol and methadone in contrast to other opioids. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Tramadol is one of the most commonly used analgesics worldwide, classified as having a low abuse potential by U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, and often recommended in pain management guidelines.

Comparison of insulin detemir and insulin glargine in a Basal-Bolus regimen, with insulin aspart as the mealtime insulin, in patients with type 1 diabetes: A 52-week, multinational, randomized, open-label, parallel-group, treat-to-target noninferiority trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Objective: The primary study objective was to determine whether insulin detemir (detemir) was noninferior to insulin glargine (glargine) as the basal insulin in a basal-bolus regimen, with insulin aspart as the mealtime insulin, in terms of glycemic ...

Hypoglycemia‐associated autonomic failure, counterregulatory responses, and therapeutic options in type 1 diabetes

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2019
Hypoglycemia remains a major barrier to the achievement of target levels of glycemic control for most individuals with insulin‐dependent type 1 diabetes (T1D).

The Novel Dual GIP and GLP‐1 Receptor Agonist Tirzepatide Attenuates Colon Cancer Development by Regulating Glucose Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tirzepatide, a dual GIP/GLP‐1 receptor agonist for diabetes, suppresses colorectal cancer growth by targeting glucose metabolism. It inhibits cancer cell proliferation, promotes apoptosis, and induces tumor regression. It reduces glucose uptake and destabilizes HIF‐1α for degradation to downregulate PFKFB3/PFK‐1 enzymes, thus contributing to the ...

Hypoglycemia in blood glucose level in type 2 diabetic Japanese patients by continuous glucose monitoring

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, 2019
Background Hypoglycemia is associated with cardiovascular diseases, increased risk of death. Therefore, it is important to avoid hypoglycemia. The aim of this study was to characterize hypoglycemia according to glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level and ...
