Investigating the Role of Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus in Nociception of the Rat
International Journal of Neuroscience, 2008The role of hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) in nociception was investigated in the rat. Electrical stimulation of the PVN increased pain threshold, and microinjection of L-glutamate sodium into the PVN also elevated pain threshold in a dose-dependent manner, whereas cauterization of the PVN decreased pain threshold.

Glucosensing in parvocellular neurons of the rat hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus
European Journal of Neuroscience, 2011AbstractSpecialized hypothalamic neurons responding to rising extracellular glucose via increases or decreases in their electrical activity [glucose‐excited (GE) and glucose‐inhibited (GI) cells, respectively] have been reported in the hypothalamic arcuate, ventromedial and lateral nuclei.

Organization of the neuroendocrine and autonomic hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus
2021A major function of the nervous system is to maintain a relatively constant internal environment. The distinction between our external environment (i.e., the environment that we live in and that is subject to major changes, such as temperature, humidity, and food availability) and our internal environment (i.e., the environment formed by the fluids ...

Organization of the hamster paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus
Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1993AbstractThe hamster periventricular hypothalamic area has been the focus of functional research concerning photoperiodic time measurement. These studies have relied upon the extensive analysis of rat paraventricular nucleus because there has been a general absence of anatomical description in the hamster.

Organization of the human paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus
The Journal of Comparative Neurology, 2000The cyto- and chemoarchitecture of the human paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus (Pa) was studied with the aid of three-dimensional computer reconstruction. The adult human Pa is a vertically elongated structure that abuts the wall of the third ventricle (3V) medially and is indented dorsolaterally by the descending fornix.

ROLE OF THE HYPOTHALAMIC PARAVENTRICULAR NUCLEUS IN CARDIOVASCULAR REGULATION
Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 1996SUMMARY1. The paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus (PVH) is a complex structure with both neuroendocrine and autonomic functions. It is a major source of vasopressin and the primary source of corticotropin‐releasing factor. In addition, parvicellular PVH neurons have reciprocal connections with brain‐stem autonomic centres and directly innervate ...
