Cognitive and social functions of craniopharyngioma and germ cell tumor differ in patients with and without apathy

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports, Volume 4, Issue 1, March 2025.
This study investigated patients with craniopharyngioma and germ cell tumor to assess the impact of apathy on their neurocognitive, social cognitive, and social functions. Apathy was observed in 11 (45.8%) of 24 patients, and cognitive and social functions may be more impaired in patients with apathy.

Real‐life users of hormonal or thermal male contraception: An analysis of female partners’ motivation, experience, and satisfaction

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 12, Issue 8, Page 1808-1821, November 2024.
Abstract Background Two male contraceptive methods that inhibit spermatogenesis currently exist: thermal male contraception and hormonal male contraception. Only five studies have been conducted on the acceptability of these methods among men; among women, only the hypothetical acceptability of such a male contraceptive approach as the sole ...

Hypothalamus Connectivity in Adolescent Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 102, Issue 10, October 2024.
This study examined hypothalamus connectivity in adolescents with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). We identified weak‐to‐moderate evidence of increased connectivity (as measured by the number of connections) in the bilateral anterior‐inferior, left anterior‐superior, and total left hypothalamus in adolescents with ME/CFS ...

Estradiol action in the female hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal axis

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 36, Issue 10, October 2024.
Evolution of estradiol action in the hypothalamo–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis of females. Left, early HPG axis at the time of Moore and Price and Hohlweg. Middle, refinements to the axis, including the hypothalamus as the main central neural player and the postulated regions of control for tonic and surge gonadotropin release by Barraclough and Gorski.

The investigation of the molecular changes during lipopolysaccharide‐induced systemic inflammation on rat hippocampus by using FTIR spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2024.
An inflammatory response occurs in the hippocampus as a part of systemic inflammation. Significant changes take place in the structure and composition of lipids, proteins and nucleic acids during the inflammatory response. These changes are in the direction of explaining the increased neuronal excitability.
