Advances in Hypothermic and Normothermic Perfusion in Kidney Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Hypothermic and normothermic machine perfusion in kidney transplantation are purported to exert a beneficial effect on post-transplant outcomes compared to the traditionally used method of static cold storage. Kidney perfusion techniques provide a window

Experimental study on coronary perfusion with selective brain cooling for direct aortic surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 1959
1. Retrograde coronary perfusion in combination with selective brain cooling by irrigation was investigated in dogs, in comparison with direct coronary artery perfusion. 2.

Improved perfusion in hypothermic machine preservation of the liver. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Introduction: Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) provides a better protectionagainst ischemic kidney damage compared to cold-storage (CS). A switch from static CS to HMP in liver transplantation could prevent Ischemic-Type-Biliary-Lesions due to ...

Hypothermic Machine Perfusion in Liver Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Dynamic preservation strategies are a promising option to improve graft quality before transplantation, and to extend preservation time for either logistic or treatment reasons.

Monitoring Mitochondrial Function With High‐Resolution Respirometry During Ex‐Situ Heart Perfusion

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Normothermic ESHP preserves mitochondrial respiratory function over 6 h in a porcine model (n = 6): OXPHOS capacities across NADH‐, fatty‐acid‐, and succinate‐linked pathways remain stable, with reduced cytochrome‐c control efficiency indicating improved outer‐membrane integrity. HRR provides a rapid, actionable readout for organ assessment.

Experimental Extracorporeal Circulation System: A Pilot Study in Rats

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
A miniature extracorporeal circulation (ECC) system was developed for reproducible rodent studies. This system incorporates an integrated heat exchanger and a silicone membrane oxygenator within a double‐lumen circuit, resulting in an ultralow priming volume of < 1.5 mL.

Hypothermic machine perfusion in kidney transplantation: back to the future? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Static cold storage is currently the most used method of organ preservation worldwide. However, cutting edge technology and dramatic changes in the donor pattern have lately renewed the interest toward hypothermic machine perfusion.

Progress Toward a Portable Artificial Lung: A Systematic Review

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Eight portable respiratory assist devices were identified. The CE‐marked MobyBox and the FDA‐approved Breethe OXY‐1 system are in clinical use. Each device is substantially minimized to allow ambulation, but further work is required to address challenges related to anticoagulant management and safe mobilization. Created in BioRender.
