Hypoxia-inducible factor and cancer
Revista de Oncología, 2004Oxygen is an essential requirement for mammalian cell metabolism. Cells respond to decreased oxygen tension by inducing adaptive responses aimed at restoring oxygen availability and maintaining energy balance. Most responses to hypoxia are mediated by the activation of a family of transcription factors termed hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF).

The Role of Hypoxia-Induced Factors
2010The definition of “physiologically” normoxic conditions for either embryonic or adult cells varies significantly. The vast majority of adult normal tissues function at oxygen (O2) levels between 2 and 9%, with ambient air at 21% O2 [135]. Bone marrow, cartilage, kidney medulla, and thymus, on the other hand, can exist at 1% O2 or lower [135].

Hypoxia Induces Transcription Factor ETS-1 via the Activity of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2001ETS-1 plays an important role in angiogenesis and cancer invasion, and hypoxia is a common feature in these phenomena. We examined whether hypoxia influenced ETS-1 expression. Hypoxia induced ETS-1 in a human bladder cancer cell line, T24, and promoter analysis revealed that the deletion of -424 to -279 bp from the human ETS-1 promoter decreased the ...

Hypoxia‐Inducible Factor 1 Inhibitors
2007The tremendous progress in our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the presence and consequences of hypoxia in human cancers has been accompanied by renewed enthusiasm for the development of therapeutic strategies targeting hypoxic cells signaling pathways.
