Changes in Pulmonary Arterial Wall Mechanical Properties and Lumenal Architecture with Induced Vascular Remodeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
To explore and quantify pulmonary arterial remodeling we used various methods including micro-CT, high-resolution 3-dimensional x-ray imaging, to examine the structure and function of intact pulmonary vessels in isolated rat lungs.

Hypoxia Produces Pro-arrhythmic Late Sodium Current in Cardiac Myocytes by SUMOylation of NaV1.5 Channels. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Acute cardiac hypoxia produces life-threatening elevations in late sodium current (ILATE) in the human heart. Here, we show the underlying mechanism: hypoxia induces rapid SUMOylation of NaV1.5 channels so they reopen when normally inactive, late in the ...

Characteristics of demersal fish community structure during summer hypoxia in the Pearl River Estuary, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
In recent decades, hypoxic areas have rapidly expanded worldwide in estuaries and coastal zones. The Pearl River Estuary (PRE), one of China's largest estuaries, experiences frequent seasonal hypoxia due to intense human activities and eutrophication ...

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

Interfacial Bioengineering of Dynamic Networks Hybrid Hydrogel for Programmed Intervention in Oral Precancerous Epithelial States

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a dual‐bioinspired hydrogel, MSA@PGel (macrophage membrane‐coated and salvianolic acid B/5‐aminolevulinic acid co‐loaded liposomes embedded in a polydopamine‐based gel), that integrates macrophage membrane‐mediated active targeting and mussel‐inspired wet adhesion for programmed intervention in oral precancerous lesions.

Primary Cilia, Hypoxia, and Liver Dysfunction: A New Perspective on Biliary Atresia

open access: yesCells
Ciliopathies are disorders that affect primary or secondary cellular cilia or structures associated with ciliary function. Primary cilia (PC) are essential for metabolic regulation and embryonic development, and pathogenic variants in cilia-related genes

siRNA Delivery via Cross‐Linked Gelatin Microparticles Enables Targeted Modulation of Osteogenic‐Vascular Cross‐Talk: An Advanced Human 3D in Vitro Test System for Therapeutic siRNA

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Osteogenic‐angiogenic cross‐talk is a vital prerequisite for vascularized bone regeneration. In this study, we investigated the effects of siRNA‐mediated silencing of two inhibitory proteins, Chordin and WWP‐1, via CaP‐NP‐loaded gelatin microparticles in osteogenically differentiated microtissues.

Alveolar hypoxia induces organ‐specific inflammasome‐related inflammation in male mouse lungs

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
Inflammation through activation of caspase‐1, seems to play a role in pulmonary hypertension induced by alveolar hypoxia. Whether alveolar hypoxia induces caspase‐1‐mediated inflammation and influx of leukocytes in other organs than the lungs, is not ...
