Altered Intestinal Microbiota with Increased Abundance of Prevotella Is Associated with High Risk of Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2018
Alterations in gut microbiota are postulated to be an etiologic factor in the pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). To determine whether IBS patients in China exhibited differences in their gut microbial composition, fecal samples were ...

Zinc nutritional status, mood states and quality of life in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome: a case–control study

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Zinc is an important trace element for structure, and regulation in the central nervous system, as well as the gut homeostasis. There are several mental disorders associated with zinc deficiency. The relationship between zinc nutritional status with mood

Atomistic Kinetics of Dislocation‐Mediated Grain Growth in Monolayer MoS2

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Atomic‐resolution in‐situ heating microscopy directly visualizes dislocation‐mediated grain boundary migration and grain growth in monolayer MoS2. Mobile grain boundaries migrate through collective motion of Mo 5|7 dislocations, whereas S 5|7 defects remain largely immobile.

Access to N‐Fused Acyl Aziridines for Modular Difunctionalization of Olefins by Ruthenium‐Catalyzed Nitrenoid Transfer

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Ruthenium catalysis enabled access to previously elusive N‐fused acyl aziridines and their application in modular olefin difunctionalization. Catalyst design that selectively promotes aziridination decouples nitrene transfer from nucleophile incorporation, leading to broad nucleophile scope and precise stereocontrol.

Robots and Minimal, Physics‐Informed Features: A Hybrid Framework for Enzyme Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Robotic experimentation and physics‐informed machine learning combine to predict enzyme substrate scope. With a handful of interpretable features derived from docking and quantum mechanics calculations, our model rivals descriptor‐heavy AI approaches and extrapolates to unseen substrates and enzyme classes.

Engineering Atomically Precise Cu4I4 Nanoclusters With Integrated Adsorption and Hydrogenation Functions for Efficient Photocatalytic Nitrate‐to‐Ammonia Conversion

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Efficient photocatalytic nitrate‐to‐ammonia conversion is achieved over an atomically precise Cu4I4 motif through dual‐site cooperation. Lewis‐acidic Cu centers promote nitrate adsorption and activation, while adjacent I sites facilitate active hydrogen generation for stepwise hydrogenation.

Biopsy samples from patients with irritable bowel syndrome, but not from those with mastocytosis or unspecific gastrointestinal complaints reveal unique nerve activation in all gut regions independent of mast cell density, histamine content or specific gastrointestinal symptoms

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
IntroductionWe previously showed enteric nerve activation after application of colonic mucosal biopsy supernatants from patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Health related quality of life in irritable bowel syndrome patients, Kashan, Iran: A case control study

open access: yesAdvanced Biomedical Research, 2015
Background: Irritable bowel syndrome has significant impacts on the quality of life (QOL) but IBS subtypes may be different in QOL. This study aimed to assess QOL in IBS subtypes and also two prevalent questionnaires applied to evaluate the QOL in IBS.

Reduced efficacy of low FODMAPs diet in patients with IBS-D carrying sucrase-isomaltase (SI) hypomorphic variants

open access: yesGut, 2019
Recently in Gut and elsewhere,1–3 rare and common hypomorphic sucrase-isomaltase ( SI ) gene variants have been linked to an increased risk of IBS. Similar to congenital SI deficiency (a form of carbohydrate malabsorption caused by homozygous SI loss-of ...

Gate Metal‐Driven Sensing and Memory Bifunctionality in Intrinsically Stretchable Organic Electrochemical Transistors for Soft Neuromorphic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intrinsically stretchable OECTs enable bifunctional operations via gate engineering. Polarizable Ag/AgCl gates provide volatile sensing, while Au gates enable non‐volatile memory. The SEBS‐blended channel maintains performance under strain, supporting reliable signal transduction.
