New pathway of icariin-induced MSC osteogenesis: transcriptional activation of TAZ/Runx2 by PI3K/Akt

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences, 2017
Icariin has been demonstrated to stimulate mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) osteogensis and activate several signals, such as PI3K/Akt, but how the osteogenesis was sequentially mediated is unclear.

HIF-1 signalling pathway was identified as a potential new pathway for Icariin’s treatment against Alzheimer’s disease based on preclinical evidence and bioinformatics

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Aim: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition that is characterized by the gradual loss of memory and cognitive function. Icariin, which is a natural chemical isolated from Epimedii herba, has been shown to protect against AD.

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 5, Page 857-869, May 2026.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

A novel icariin type flavonoid from Epimedium pseudowushanense

open access: yesNatural Product Research, 2018
A novel icariin type flavonoid glycoside with a malonaldehydic acid intramolecular ester and two known flavonoid glycosides were isolated from Epimedium pseudowushanense. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and comparison of their data to the values reported in the literatures.

A Natural Flavonoid Glucoside, Icariin, Regulates Th17 and Alleviates Rheumatoid Arthritis in a Murine Model

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2014
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that causes deformity of the joints and physical disability. Icariin, a natural flavonoid glucoside isolated from plants in the Epimedium family, has been proven to have various ...

The Herbal Pair Daphniphyllum calycinum–Polygonum hydropiper Alleviates Gastric Mucosal Injury via Regulating Autophagy and Targeting the TLR4/NF‐κB/NLRP3 Pathway

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
The schematic diagram illustrated the proposed mechanism of DCPH in mouse macrophages. DCPH promotes autophagy to suppress the TLR4/NF‐κB/NLRP3 pathway and M1 polarization, thereby attenuating cellular oxidative stress and inflammation. ABSTRACT Gastric mucosal injury refers to the pathological changes characterized by congestion, edema, bleeding and ...

Icariside II Preparation from Icariin Separated from Epimedium Herbal Extract Powder by a Special Icariin Glycosidase

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology and Biotechnology
In this study, icariside II was prepared from icariin by a special enzyme. The yield of the substrate icariin from a powdered extract of the popular herb Epimedium was 16.9%. The enzyme, which was produced from Aspergillus sp.y48 fermentation, hydrolyzes icariin to icariside II and was characterized.
