Evaluation of Surface Melt on the Greenland Ice Sheet Using SMAP L-Band Microwave Radiometry

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2021
Monitoring melt extent and timing on the Greenland ice sheet is important for tracking the ice sheet's mass and energy balance as well as the global and Arctic climate variability and change.

Matthew 24 and This Generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The last few months have been a time in which I have been involved in a couple of debates with preterists. Preterism teaches that most, if not all, of the Book of Revelation and the Olivet Discourse (Matt.

Laboratory experiments and models of diffusive emplacement of ground ice on Mars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Experiments demonstrate for the first time the deposition of subsurface ice directly from atmospheric water vapor under Mars surface conditions. Deposition occurs at pressures below the triple point of water and therefore in the absence of a bulk liquid ...

A stratigraphic framework for abrupt climatic changes during the Last Glacial period based on three synchronized Greenland ice-core records: refining and extending the INTIMATE event stratigraphy

open access: yes, 2014
Due to their outstanding resolution and well-constrained chronologies, Greenland ice-core records provide a master record of past climatic changes throughout the Last Interglacial–Glacial cycle in the North Atlantic region.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Signal Prediction Using U-Net CNN: Beyond Traditional RNN Approaches

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper studies signal prediction in settings where the target signal is not a continuation of an observed history but must be inferred from other simultaneously measured signals.

River ice responses to a warming Arctic—recent evidence from Russian rivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper looks at the response of river ice to recent warming in the Arctic at six major downstream gauges on large Russian rivers flowing to the Arctic Ocean.

Cubic ice Ic without stacking defects obtained from ice XVII [PDF]

open access: yesNature Materials, 2020
Amongst the more than 18 different forms of water ice, only the common hexagonal phase and the cubic phase are present in nature on Earth. Nonetheless, it is now widely recognized that all samples of 'cubic ice' discovered so far do not have a fully cubic crystal structure but instead are stacking-disordered forms of ice I (namely, ice Isd), which ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Modern Israel\u27s Right to the Land [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The modern state of Israel is under attack like never before since her 1948 founding from all sides throughout the world. Recently a secular Israeli said shortly after this summer’s war (2006) with Hezbollah, “Every year they hate us more.” No matter ...
