A stratigraphic link across 1100 km of the Antarctic Ice Sheet between the Vostok ice-core site and Titan Dome (near South Pole) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Isochronous internal ice-sheet layering, measured from airborne 60 MHz radar, was traced between Lake Vostok and the Titan Ice Dome (100 km from South Pole Station), Antarctica. Three layers were selected between Ridge B and Titan Dome, and between Ridge

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Deep Reinforcement Learning Framework for Centralized Dynamic Routing Optimization via Integrated Link Weight Prediction and Path Selection

open access: yesIEEE Access
Traditional routing protocols such as OSPF rely on static metrics, failing to account for real-time link utilization. This static approach often directs traffic to congested bottlenecks while redundant paths remain idle, leading to increased latency ...

Ice nucleation under cirrus cloud conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cirrus are thin upper tropospheric clouds that are composed entirely of ice particles. Due to their extensive coverage of the Earth’s surface, they have a significant impact on the Earth’s radiative balance.

Model-scale tests on the ice-structure interaction process in shallow water

open access: yes, 2022
A series of model-scale experiments on the ice loading process against a wide, inclined structure in shallow water was conducted in the Aalto Ice Tank. Experiments with three different ice strengths were performed. Based on the results of the experiments,

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Signal Prediction Using U-Net CNN: Beyond Traditional RNN Approaches

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper studies signal prediction in settings where the target signal is not a continuation of an observed history but must be inferred from other simultaneously measured signals.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Modeling ice block failure within drift ice and ice rubble

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2022
A major challenge within material science is the proper modeling of force transmission through fragmenting materials under compression. A particularly demanding material is sea ice, which on small scales is an anisotropic material with quasibrittle characteristics under failure.
