Identification and expression analysis of CBF/DREB1 and COR15 genes in mutants of Brassica oleracea var. botrytis with enhanced proline production and frost resistance. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Frost resistant mutants of Brassica oleracea var. botrytis were investigated for the presence of CBF/DREB1 and COR15a gene products and induced frost resistance.

Response of Common Ice Plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L.) to Sodium Chloride Concentration in Hydroponic Nutrient Solution

open access: yesHortScience, 2022
Common ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L.) is a novel edible succulent plant with savory flavor. It has epidermal bladder cells (EBCs) that store water and sodium chloride (NaCl) located on the epidermis of the leaves and stems.

Ice-templating beet-root pectin foams: Controlling texture, mechanics and capillary properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Sugar beet pectin is a byproduct of the sugar industry with a particularly low gelling power which hinders its application as gelling agent and thickener.

Population Genetics Reveals the Invasion Pathways of Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum in North America

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Invasive populations of the slenderleaf iceplant, Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum L., are problematic along the west coast of North America. The plant is hypothesised to originate from southern Africa, though it has established populations in North Africa ...

Abrupt wind regime changes in the North Atlantic Ocean during the past 30,000-60,000 years [PDF]

open access: yes
The inputs of higher plants in Blake Outer Ridge (subtropical western North Atlantic) during marine isotope stage 3 (MIS3) have been recorded at high resolution by quantification of C23–C33 odd carbon numbered n-alkanes and C20–C30 even carbon numbered

‘They Need to Hear You Say It’: Healthcare Professionals’ Perspectives on Barriers and Enablers to End‐of‐Life Discussions With Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT End‐of‐life conversations with adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer rarely occur without the guidance of healthcare professionals. As a part of the ‘Difficult Discussions’ study, focused on palliative care and advance care planning discussions with AYAs with cancer, we investigated the factors that healthcare professionals identify ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Genome-wide identification, molecular evolution, and expression analysis of the bHLH gene family in Mesembryanthemum crystallinum

open access: yesVegetable Research
The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors (TFs) play crucial regulatory roles in plant responses to abiotic stress. However, their molecular evolution and functions in facultative crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) plants, Mesembryanthemum ...
