Metabolizable energy requirement for starting barrow pigs (15 to 30 kg) fed on the ideal protein concept based diets

open access: yes, 2005
The objective of this study was to determine the metabolizable energy (ME) requirement f or s tarting barrow pigs. Forty-three animals, selected for their high lean ga in, were allotted in a completely randomized b lock design, divided in four treatments

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Genetic variation in Fcγ receptor IIa and risk of coronary heart disease : negative results from two large independent populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background The role of the Fcgamma receptor IIa (FcgammaRIIa), a receptor for C-reactive protein (CRP), the classical acute phase protein, in atherosclerosis is not yet clear.

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Levels of true digestible lisiane and metabolizable energy for growing pigs: effect on nitrogen and energy balance Níveis de lisina digestível verdadeira e energia metabolizável para suínos em crescimento: efeito sobre o balanço de nitrogênio e energético

open access: yesCiência e Agrotecnologia, 2009
An experiment was conducted at the Department of Animal Husbandry of Universidade Federal de Lavras aiming to study the nitrogen and energy balance in diets with reduced crude protein rates (CP) and different levels of energy and lysine for growing pigs.

Expression and purification of the nucleocapsid protein of Schmallenberg virus, and preparation and characterization of a monoclonal antibody against this protein

open access: yes, 2013
Schmallenberg virus (SBV) is a novel orthobunyavirus that primarily infects ruminants such as cattle, sheep and goats. The nucleocapsid (N) protein of SBV has been shown to be an ideal target antigen for serological detection.

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Antibody levels to multiple malaria vaccine candidate antigens in relation to clinical malaria episodes in children in the Kasena-Nankana district of Northern Ghana. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: Considering the natural history of malaria of continued susceptibility to infection and episodes of illness that decline in frequency and severity over time, studies which attempt to relate immune response to protection must be longitudinal ...

Evaluating the involvement of autolysosomes in the nuclear translocation of fluorescent proteins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Endogenously expressed fluorescent proteins can be degraded by autophagy and transported to cell nuclei via the nuclear pore complex. But in some cell lines, for example, HeLa cells which are positive for immunoreactivity of a receptor ligand, such as UCN I, in cell nuclei, fusion of autolysosome with the nuclear envelope is involved in the nuclear ...

Balance of protein supplements according to the criterion of convertible protein

open access: yes, 2019
The main sources of vegetable protein are seeds of legumes and oilseeds, which differ as by total content as by the quality. One of the least expensive and most rapid method of assessing the quality of protein is a chemical method, based on a comparative
