Macromodeling ideal switches for SPICE

IEEE Circuits and Devices Magazine, 1995
Representing switches in terms of SPICE-acceptable elements is important for simulating DC-DC converters, switching mode power supplies, and power electronic circuits. Some time back, Xu and Yu [1988] proposed an equivalent circuit model for a switch employing independent and controlled voltage sources and resistors. Two basic questions come to mind in

Effects of non-ideal switches in PWM switching converters

International Journal of Electronics, 1992
This paper presents new models that account for the non-ideal properties of semiconductor BJT switches responsible for the switching action in PWM converters. These models can be used for both the DC and small-signal AC analyses of PWM switching regulators.

Simulation of networks with ideal switches

International Journal of Electronics, 1994
Recently developed simulation techniques that may be used for switched networks, as typified by switching power converters, are reviewed. The use of the numerical inverse Laplace transform is useful in performing equation integration and resolution of inconsistent initial conditions.

The ideal switch is not enough

2016 28th International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD), 2016
There is an ongoing demand for increased power density and efficiency along with lower costs of converter systems and shorter development time for specific applications in the field of power electronics. In order to expedite the technology development Google and IEEE initiated the Google Little Box Challenge (GLBC) including $1 million prize money. Aim

Ideal switch model cuts simulation time

IEEE Circuits and Devices Magazine, 2006
Considering the fact that any circuit containing an ideal switch is nonlinear, we developed a model for the ideal switch that is applicable in a general-purpose time-domain circuit simulation program. The switch is considered as a circuit element and used simply as any other circuit element. This model is simple to implement in a simulation program and

Noise analysis of ideal switched-capacitor networks

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 1999
This paper presents a method for computing the noise power spectral density (PSD) in switched-capacitor networks, Explicit formulas are developed for both white and 1/f noise sources. The 1/f noise is handled directly in the formulation without having to approximate its PSD by using a noise shaping filter.

Extended complete switch as ideal system network

2010 East-West Design & Test Symposium (EWDTS), 2010
A new approach based on incomplete balanced block-designs to implement large complete interconnect networks from small switch bars is proposed. Structurally these networks are the equivalent to quasicomplete graphs. Networks of such structure have the best characteristics of controllability, observability, testability and fault tolerance in relation to

Resonant Switched-Capacitor Voltage Regulator With Ideal Transient Response

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2014
A new, small and efficient voltage regulator realized using a resonant switched capacitor converter (RSCC) technology is introduced. Voltage regulation is implemented by means of simple digital pulse density modulation (PDM). It displays an ideal transient response with a zero-order response to all disturbance types.

SystemC AMS power electronic modeling with ideal instantaneous switches

Proceedings of the 2014 Forum on Specification and Design Languages (FDL), 2014
Ideal instantaneous switches are a useful behavior abstraction technique to model semiconductor components in power system development. It allows fast and robust simulations of sophisticated power controls. In this paper we present a SystemC AMS extension to support modeling and simulation of externally as well as internally controlled electrical ...

Analysis of networks with ideal switches

5th IEEE Workshop on Computers in Power Electronics, 2002
The paper describes SWANN, a computer program for the fast simulation of nonlinear switched analog networks. Switching elements, like diodes or transistors, can be modeled as open and short circuits. The program accepts all linear elements; nonlinear elements are modeled by cubic splines.
