Hot-wiring dynein-2 establishes roles for IFT-A in retrograde train assembly and motility

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
Summary: Intraflagellar transport (IFT) trains, built around IFT-A and IFT-B complexes, are carried by opposing motors to import and export ciliary cargo.

IFT‐81 and IFT‐74 are required for intraflagellar transport in C. elegans [PDF]

open access: yesGenes to Cells, 2007
Intraflagellar transport (IFT) is essential machinery for biogenesis and maintenance of cilia in many eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. A large number of polypeptides are known to be involved in IFT, but the physiological role of each component is not fully elucidated. Here, we identified a C.

A New Framework to Quantify the Wetting Behaviour of Carbonate Rock Surfaces Based on the Relationship between Zeta Potential and Contact Angle

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
This study introduces a new framework to quantify the wettability of powdered carbonate rock from existing correlations between zeta potential and contact angle.

Age, period, and cohort effects on trends in outpatient addiction care utilization in the general Berlin population from 2008 to 2016

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2022
Background The aim of this study was to decompose independent effects of age, period, and cohort on trends in outpatient addiction care utilization resulting from alcohol (AUD) and illicit substances use disorders (ISUD).

Effectiveness of the national German quitline for smoking cessation: study protocol of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2022
Background Despite the decline in cigarette smoking prevalence during nearly the past two decades, tobacco use is still widespread in the German adult population, accounting for 125,000 deaths each year and causing tremendous social costs.

Differential diagnostics of bullous dermatoses

open access: yesVestnik Dermatologii i Venerologii, 2017
Bullous dermatoses are the diseases characterized by vesication and erosion of skin and/or mucos coats, production of autoantibodies against the structural components of epidermis and/or derma. The most frequent diseases of these disorders are pemphigus,

Building train carriages for ciliary transport: (IFT-)A complex task

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
Cilia assembly and function require intraflagellar transport (IFT), a mechanism that uses “trains” to transport cargoes into and out of cilia. While much has been learned about IFT in the past decades, IFT train assembly, loading of cargo and transport ...

WDR31 displays functional redundancy with GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) ELMOD and RP2 in regulating IFT complex and recruiting the BBSome to cilium

open access: yesLife Science Alliance, 2023
Our research reveals that the deletion of WDR-31, RP-2, and ELMD-1 is leading to ciliary accumulation of IFT Complex B components and KIF17 kinesin. In conclusion, WDR31, ELMOD, and RP2 are working in regulating IFT via the BBSome.

TULP4, a novel E3 ligase gene, participates in neuronal migration as a candidate in schizophrenia

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, EarlyView., 2023
Mutations identified from four SCZ pedigrees resulted in decreased TULP4 expression. Tulp4 knockdown caused delayed neuron migration in embryonic mice, and impaired cognition and prepulse inhibition in adult mice. These phenotypes may be related to TULP4 through its involvement in the formation of a novel E3 ubiquitin ligases.

Experimental Study of Electromagnetic-Assisted Rare-Earth Doped Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) Nanofluids on Wettability and Interfacial Tension Alteration

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Applications of nanoparticles (NPs) in the Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method has become a major research field as nanoparticles are found to be able to interfere with the interfacial tension and wettability of multiphase fluids within the reservoir ...
