Reference values for CSF-IgM, CSF-IgM/S-IgM ratio and IgM index, and its application to patients with multiple sclerosis and aseptic meningoencephalitis

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 1984
Immunoglobulin M (IgM) concentrations were determined in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum (S) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In 52 reference subjects, the upper reference limit was 0.46 mg/l for CSF-IgM, 0.32 X 10(-3) for CSF-IgM/S-IgM ratio, and 0.061 for IgM index equal to CSF-IgM X S-albumin/S-IgM X CSF-albumin ratio.

Transplantation for IgM Amyloidosis and IgM Myeloma

Clinical Lymphoma and Myeloma, 2009
High-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation is an accepted form of treatment for patients with AL amyloidosis and multiple myeloma. It is not widely recognized that patients with myeloma and amyloidosis might be associated with an IgM monoclonal protein.

IS THERE AN IgM NEPHROPATHY?

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine, 1983
Abstract:Recent reports have suggested that there is a specific form of mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (GN) characterised by a diffuse and generalised mesangial deposition of IgM. The study included 149 consecutive patients with primary GN, who had adequate renal tissue for detailed light and immunofluorescent microscopy. Forty of these 149

DEFICIENCY OF IgM

Pediatrics, 1971
An 8½-month-old infant with absent IgM had recurrent Pseudomonas infections. IgG and IgA, but no IgM-containing plasma cells, were identified in the spleen by immunofluorescence. The spleen and lymph nodes lacked germinal centers, but Peyer's patches and the appendix were normal.

Human IgM Anti‐IgM Cytotoxin for B Lymphocytes

Tissue Antigens, 1980
Blymphocytes were shown previously to be killed at 5*C by some autologous and allogeneic human sera. We show here that such cold cytotoxins are directed against immunoglobulins on the surface of B lymphocytes. The activity is partially removed by passing serum through IgG‐coupled Sepharose and usually completely removed by passing serum through IgM ...

On the structure of polymeric IgM

European Journal of Immunology, 1988
AbstractThe cysteine at position 575 of the immunoglobulin μ heavy chain is thought to provide the only disulfide bonds joining the monomer subunits of mouse polymeric IgM. The importance of this cysteine in the assembly of polymeric IgM was investigated by using site‐directed mutagenesis to produce μ chains with serine at position 575.

Role of Natural IgM Autoantibodies (IgM-NAA) and IgM Anti-Leukocyte Antibodies (IgM-ALA) in Regulating Inflammation

2017
Natural IgM autoantibodies (IgM-NAA) are rapidly produced to inhibit pathogens and abrogate inflammation mediated by invading microorganisms and host neoantigens. IgM-NAA achieve this difficult task by being polyreactive with low binding affinity but with high avidity, characteristics that allow these antibodies to bind antigenic determinants shared by

IgM-IFA, IgM-ELISA, DS-IgM-ELISA, IgM-ISAGA, performed on whole serum and IgM fractions, for detection of IgM anti-toxoplasma antibodies during pregnancy.

Bollettino dell'Istituto sieroterapico milanese, 1986
The traditional IgM-ELISA has a better sensibility and specificity than IgM-IFA when these two tests are performed on whole sera, but in many cases (sera titer values of greater than 200 I.U./ml) the presence of IgM antitoxoplasma antibodies can be detected only after purification of IgM fractions.

Circulating heavy IgM in IgM nephropathy.

Clinical and experimental immunology, 1989
IgM nephropathy (IgMN) causes nephrotic syndrome and is characterized by IgM mesangial deposits. It is speculated that these deposits are derived from circulating IgM aggregates or immune complexes, either of which would have a molecular weight heavier than that of normal IgM.
