Microbiota Analysis Using an Illumina MiSeq Platform to Sequence 16S rRNA Genes
Current Protocols in Mouse Biology, 2017AbstractThe microbiota have been shown to play an important role in diverse biological processes including immunity, metabolism, and digestion. Assessing the exact composition of the microbiota has proven challenging due to the often unknown growth specificities of its members, and culture‐based approaches typically fail to capture the complete ...

Next-Generation Bisulfite Sequencing Of Cacna1c With Illumina Miseq
European Neuropsychopharmacology, 2017Background The complex etiology of psychiatric illness involves both genetic and environmental factors. The latter may act via epigenetic processes such as DNA methylation. Studies suggest that epigenetic regulation of gene expression may mediate the effects of early life experiences on adult behavior and susceptibility to psychiatric illness ...

Marine bacterial community analysis on 316L stainless steel coupons by Illumina MiSeq sequencing
Biotechnology Letters, 2020In order to evaluate the corrosive action of microorganisms on 316L metal exposed directly to a marine environment, a system was designed to immerse coupons in seawater. After periods of 30, 60 and 90 days, the coupons were recovered, the corrosion rates evaluated and the biofilm samples on their surface were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

A small percentage of the total freshwater on Earth is represented by river water. Microbes have an essential role to play in the biogeochemical cycles, mineralization of organic water, along with xenobiotics degradation. Microbial dynamics are susceptible to environmental stressors which includes pollutants such as antibiotics, metals, and other ...

Deep insights into fungal diversity in traditional Chinese sour soup by Illumina MiSeq sequencing
Food Research International, 2020Sour soup is a traditional condiment in Guizhou Province, China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in the fungi present in 5 types of sour soup (tomato sour soup, chili sour soup, cherry tomato sour soup, spoiled tomato sour soup, and red sour soup made from blended tomato and chili sour soup subjected to secondary ...

Single-molecule sequencing should allow for unambiguous, accurate, and high-throughput HLA typing. In this proof of principle study, we investigated the effects of fragment size for library preparation, indexing strategy, and read length on HLA typing. Whole gene amplicons of HLA-A, B, C, DRB1, and DQB1 were obtained by long-range PCR.

Network analysis has contributed to studies of the interactions of microorganisms and the identification of key populations. However, such analysis has rarely been conducted in the study of reservoir bacterioplankton communities. This study investigated the bacterioplankton community composition in the surface water of the Danjiangkou Reservoir using ...
