OBJ2TEXT: Generating Visually Descriptive Language from Object Layouts

open access: yes, 2017
Generating captions for images is a task that has recently received considerable attention. In this work we focus on caption generation for abstract scenes, or object layouts where the only information provided is a set of objects and their locations. We

ETV2 Mediated Differentiation of Human Pluripotent Stem Cells Results in Functional Endothelial Cells for Engineering Advanced Vascularized Microphysiological Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A robust method to generate functional human iPSC‐derived endothelial cells using inducible ETV2 expression. These cells self‐organize into stable, lumenized microvascular networks within microfluidic chips, surpassing conventional differentiation methods.

Semantic‐meshed and content‐guided transformer for image captioning

open access: yesIET Computer Vision, 2022
The transformer architecture has been the dominant framework for today's image captioning tasks because of its superior performance. However, existing methods based on transformer often lack the integrated use of multi‐level semantic information and are ...

A Modular Bioinstructive Platform Reveals Mechanistic Insights into Additive‐Free, Topography‐Driven Osteogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered microparticle topographies direct human mesenchymal stem cell osteogenesis without biochemical additives. This osteogenic commitment is driven by canonical Hedgehog signaling and followed by temporal IGF‐II engagement. Two‐photon polymerization demonstrates spatial control, enabling the engineering of topographical gradients that pattern ...

Image captioning Bot

open access: yesInternational Journal for Modern Trends in Science and Technology, 2020
Image captioning means automatically generating a caption for an image with the development of deep learning, the combination of computer vision and natural language process has caught great attention in the last few years. Image captioning is a representative of this filed, which makes the computer learn to use one or more sentences to understand the ...

Piezoelectric Surface Charge and Dynamic Stimulation Synergize to Promote Cardiac Myoblast Alignment and Maturation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface polarization of PVDF films combined with mechanical stimulation generates piezoelectric electrical cues that modulate cardiomyoblast behaviour. Non‐poled and poled PVDF substrates provide distinct electroactive microenvironments influencing cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation.

Temporally Delayed Deployment of Photo‐Responsive Liquid Crystal Polymer Networks Toward Neural Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Deployable medical devices typically need external stimuli to trigger deployment. However, external stimuli are difficult to supply within tissues. Here, we describe a strategy to deploy small‐scale structures into soft tissues after insertion without the need for any stimulus. We demonstrate deployment within a tissue phantom.

Soft Neural Interfaces for Circuit‐Level Analysis of Magnetogenetic Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Magnetogenetic deep brain stimulation (MG‐DBS) represents a wireless neuromodulation that has demonstrated long‐lasting behavioral benefits in Parkinson's disease models. However, the circuit‐level mechanisms underlying these therapeutic effects have remained uncharacterized due to limitations of conventional neural interfaces.
