Neonatal Imitation: Theory, Experimental Design, and Significance for the Field of Social Cognition

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
Neonatal imitation has rich implications for neuroscience, developmental psychology, and social cognition, but there is little consensus about this phenomenon. The primary empirical question, whether or not neonatal imitation exists, is not settled.

Simulating Vocal Imitation in Infants, using a Growth Articulatory Model and Speech Robotics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In order to shed lights on the cognitive representations likely to underlie early vocal imitation, we tried to simulate Kuhl and Meltzoff's experiment (1996), using Bayesian robotics and a statistical model of the vocal tract that had been fitted to pre ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Time course analyses confirm independence of automatic imitation and spatial compatibility effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Automatic imitation has been used as a behavioural index of the functioning of the human mirror system (e.g. Brass, Bekkering, Wohlschlager, & Prinz, 2000; Heyes, Bird, Johnson, & Haggard, 2005; Kilner, Paulignan, & Blakemore, 2003).

Anticipated Imitation Is Not Affected by the Number of Imitators

open access: yesExperimental Psychology
Abstract: Anticipating to be imitated by another agent primes corresponding action plans in action models. Here we assessed whether being imitated by more than one coactor boosts anticipated imitation. This prediction was based on corresponding findings from motor priming by perceiving rather than anticipating movements of multiple agents. In contrast

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Didactics of Cultural Readings

open access: yesTeaching & Learning Inquiry: The ISSOTL Journal, 2023
This article makes a case for the effectiveness of using imitation-style teaching as a way to introduce how to write theoretically informed pieces of literary or media criticism to undergraduates. By making a case for the relevance of teaching this form

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Entrepreneurial orientation and the threat of imitation: the influence of upstream and downstream capabilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper uncovers the complexity between Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and performance. The paper explores the effect of the threat of imitation, which is a key external factor to explain competitive dynamics, and hence highlights effectiveness of ...

Imitation Privacy

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
In recent years, there have been many cloud-based machine learning services, where well-trained models are provided to users on a pay-per-query scheme through a prediction API. The emergence of these services motivates this work, where we will develop a general notion of model privacy named imitation privacy.
