Towards a computer-assisted assessment of imitation in children with autism spectrum disorder based on a fine-grained analysis

open access: yesHumanities & Social Sciences Communications
Imitation is considered a fundamental skill for learning in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, existing assessment methods usually provide a qualitative description of whether children imitate while ignoring individual variability in ...

Neural Network-Based Learning from Demonstration of an Autonomous Ground Robot

open access: yesMachines, 2019
This paper presents and experimentally validates a concept of end-to-end imitation learning for autonomous systems by using a composite architecture of convolutional neural network (ConvNet) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) neural network. In particular,

Rage Against the Machines: How Subjects Learn to Play Against Computers [PDF]

open access: yes
We use an experiment to explore how subjects learn to play against computers which are programmed to follow one of a number of standard learning algorithms.

Flux‐Regulated Crystallization of Perovskites Using Machine Learning‐Predicted Solvent Evaporation Rates for X‐Ray Detectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By integrating machine learning into flux‐regulated crystallization (FRC), accurate prediction of solvent evaporation rates in real time, improving crystallization control and reducing crystal growth variability by over threefold, is achieved. This enhances the reproducibility and quality of perovskite single crystals, leading to reproducible ...

Imitation Learning by Reinforcement Learning

open access: yes, 2021
Imitation learning algorithms learn a policy from demonstrations of expert behavior. We show that, for deterministic experts, imitation learning can be done by reduction to reinforcement learning with a stationary reward. Our theoretical analysis both certifies the recovery of expert reward and bounds the total variation distance between the expert and

Bimetallic Nanoparticles as Cocatalysts for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Recent developments have introduced bimetallic nanoparticles as effective cocatalysts for photocatalytic systems. This review explores the rapidly expanding research on bimetallic cocatalysts for photocatalytic production of hydrogen, emphasizing the creation of carrier‐selective contacts, localized surface plasmon resonance effects, methodologies for ...

Hacking Our Brains for Learning

open access: yesHumana.Mente: Journal of Philosophical Studies, 2018
Observational learning is ubiquitous. We very often observe and pick up information about how others behave and subsequently replicate similar behaviours in one way or another.

Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.
