Tumor Microenvironment-based Gene Signatures Divides Novel Immune and Stromal Subgroup Classification of Lung Adenocarcinoma [PDF]
Tumor microenvironment has complex effects on tumorigenesis and metastasis. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive understanding of the relationship among molecular and cellular characteristics in tumor microenvironment, clinical prognosis and immunotherpy response.

Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important

In breast cancer, the immune infiltration of the tumour associates with clinical outcome. Here, the authors infer immune context based on gene expression data and identify a new independent subtype linked to pro-tumorigenic immune infiltration.

Physics Approaches to the Spatial Distribution of Immune Cells in Tumors [PDF]
The goal of immunotherapy is to enhance the ability of the immune system to kill cancer cells. Immunotherapy is more effective and, in general, the prognosis is better, when more immune cells infiltrate the tumor. We explore the question of whether the spatial distribution rather than just the density of immune cells in the tumor is important in ...

Reactive infiltration: identifying the role of chemical reactions, capillarity, viscosity and gravity [PDF]
A wealth of experimental data indicate that while capillarity controlled infiltration gives an infiltration length that varies with the square root of time, reactive infiltration is characterised by a linear relationship between the two magnitudes. In addition the infiltration rate in the latter is at least two orders of magnitude greater than in the ...

Interplay of integrins and selectins in metastasis
Here we review the role of integrins and their interplay with selectins in metastasis. The efficacy of integrin‐targeted therapies may be reduced in tumors where metastasis relies heavily on selectins. In certain tumors, integrins and selectins exhibit a synergistic interaction during intraperitoneal dissemination.

Automated deconvolution of structured mixtures from bulk tumor genomic data [PDF]
Motivation: As cancer researchers have come to appreciate the importance of intratumor heterogeneity, much attention has focused on the challenges of accurately profiling heterogeneity in individual patients. Experimental technologies for directly profiling genomes of single cells are rapidly improving, but they are still impractical for large-scale ...

Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Experimental infection of the pig with Mycobacterium ulcerans : a novel model for studying the pathogenesis of Buruli ulcer disease [PDF]
Buruli ulcer (BU) is a slowly progressing, necrotising disease of the skin caused by infection with Mycobacterium ulcerans. Non-ulcerative manifestations are nodules, plaques and oedema, which may progress to ulceration of large parts of the skin ...
