Pathologic evaluation of tumor-associated macrophage density and vessel inflammation in invasive breast carcinomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are major constituents of the tumor microenvironment in solid tumors and have been implicated as mediators of tumor progression, invasion and metastasis.

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Differential roles of CCL2 and CCR2 in host defense to coronavirus infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The CC chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1) is important in coordinating the immune response following microbial infection by regulating T cell polarization as well as leukocyte migration and accumulation within infected tissues.

On Finite Volume Discretization of Infiltration Dynamics in Tumor Growth Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We address numerical challenges in solving hyperbolic free boundary problems described by spherically symmetric conservation laws that arise in the modeling of tumor growth due to immune cell infiltrations. In this work, we normalize the radial coordinate to transform the free boundary problem to a fixed boundary one, and utilize finite volume methods ...

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Chemokine expression and viral infection of the central nervous system: regulation of host defense and neuropathology. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
An effective host response against viral infection of the central nervous system (CNS) is the principal factor dictating the outcome of infection. It is the responsibility of the immune response to contain and control viral replication. Paradoxically, it

Stromal score is a promising index in tumor patients’ outcome determination

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Background: Immune status is widely acknowledged as a valuable marker for predicting cancer prognosis and therapy response. However, there has been a limited understanding of the stromal landscape in cancer.

CINs of the cytoplasm: dissecting dsRNA signaling in chromosomal instability

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Micronuclei, formed during cell division in chromosomal instability settings, rupture and lead to the accumulation of immunogenic double‐stranded RNA in the cytoplasm, activating MAVS‐dependent interferon signaling and innate antitumor immunity.

Comprehensive omics‐based classification system in adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The COMBAT classification system, developed through multi‐omics integration, stratifies adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(B‐ALL) into three molecular subtypes with distinct surface antigen patterns, immune landscape, methylation patterns, biological pathways and prognosis.
