Immune Thrombocytopenia: A Rare Presentation of Pulmonary Sarcoidosis
Thrombocytopenia may be the initial presentation of sarcoidosis, which is a systemic granulomatous disorder. Various pathophysiological mechanisms have been identified. Immune thrombocytopenia often has a severe presentation but may respond favourably to

Physician decision making in selection of second-line treatments in immune thrombocytopenia in children. [PDF]
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired autoimmune bleeding disorder which presents with isolated thrombocytopenia and risk of hemorrhage. While most children with ITP promptly recover with or without drug therapy, ITP is persistent or chronic in ...

COVID‐19‐associated immune thrombocytopenia
Thrombocytopenia is a risk factor for increased morbidity and mortality in patients with the new severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus, SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19 infection).1 Thrombocytopenia in COVID-19 patients may be caused by ...

Normal and pathological dynamics of platelets in humans [PDF]
We develop a comprehensive mathematical model of platelet, megakaryocyte, and thrombopoietin dynamics in humans. We show that there is a single stationary solution that can undergo a Hopf bifurcation, and use this information to investigate both normal and pathological platelet production, specifically cyclic thrombocytopenia.

Human platelets and their capacity of binding viruses: Meaning and challenges? [PDF]
Blood platelets are first aimed at ensuring primary hemostasis. Beyond this role, they have been acknowledged as having functions in the maintenance of the vascular arborescence and, more recently, as being also innate immune cells, devoted notably to ...

A distinct plasmablast and naïve B-cell phenotype in primary immune thrombocytopenia
Primary immune thrombocytopenia is an autoimmune disorder in which platelet destruction is a consequence of both B- and T-cell dysregulation. Flow cytometry was used to further characterize the B- and T-cell compartments in a cross-sectional cohort of 26

Platelet Apoptosis in Adult Immune Thrombocytopenia: Insights into the Mechanism of Damage Triggered by Auto-antibodies [PDF]
Mechanisms leading to decreased platelet count in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) are heterogeneous. This study describes increased platelet apoptosis involving loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), caspase 3 activation (aCasp3) and ...

New treatment options are required for patients with refractory immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), a disease in which immune tolerance has been lost due to reduced regulatory T-cell (Treg) activity.
