Hemorrhagic Cytomegalovirus Colitis in a Postoperative Colon Cancer Patient

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2013
We report a case of hemorrhagic cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis, occurring in a postoperative patient due to a weakened immune system. An 85-year-old woman with a medical history, including chronic renal failure treated with oral administration of ...

ZNRD2 Mediated Nucleoprotein Aggregation Impairs Respiratory Syncytial Virus Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
During RSV infection, nucleoprotein (N) forms RNA‐bound oligomers. The host protein ZNRD2 binds to these oligomers, promoting their transition into insoluble aggregates. These aggregates simultaneously sequester functional N to restrict viral production and disrupt chaperonin assembly quality control by interfering with ZNRD2's role as an adaptor ...

Safety and Efficacy of Adoptive Transfer of Stem Cell Memory Enriched Virus Specific T Cells against CMV and EBV

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study finds that CD8⁺ TSCM cells exhibit superior self‐renewal, differentiation, and antiviral activity. Transcriptome and epigenome analyses highlight MAPK cascade regulation in TSCM cells. In vivo, virus‐specific TSCM cells show enhanced persistence and tumor protection.

Chemical Synthesis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Acinetobacter baumannii Capsular Polysaccharide Fragments as Leads for Cross‐Protection

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A total of 16 chemically synthesized capsular polysaccharide (CPS) fragments related to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Acinetobacter baumannii were analyzed by glycan microarray. Comparative screening revealed three conserved epitopes that act as cross‐protective vaccine lead candidates against multidrug‐resistant (MDR) bacterial ...

Diagnostica microbiologica delle infezioni associate all’utilizzo di cateteri venosi centrali (CVC): considerazioni generali e studio in pazienti immunocompromessi

open access: yesMicrobiologia Medica, 2006
Central venous catheterization today is essential for the intensive management of both medical and surgical patients (for the administration of iv fluids, medications, blood products and parenteral nutrition fluids, to monitor hemodynamic status and to ...

A Deep Representation Learning Method for Quantitative Immune Defense Function Evaluation and Its Clinical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ImmuDef, a novel algorithm to quantitatively evaluate the anti‐infection immune defense function of an individual based on RNA‐seq data via a variational autoencoder (VAE) model. It is validated on 3200+ samples across four immune states with high accuracy. It can serve as a metric for disease severity and prognosis across pathogenic cohorts.

Salvage treatment of disseminated strongyloidiasis in an immunocompromised patient: therapy success with subcutaneous ivermectin

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
Disseminated strongyloidiasis is a disease with high mortality rate, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Paralytic ileus and intestinal malabsorption are frequent symptoms caused by this severe disease.

Non‐Targeting shRNA‐Encoded Plasmid DNA Enhances Protective Immunity Through RIDD‐RIG‐I Signaling Pathway in the Zika Virus Animal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a novel DNA vaccine platform featuring intrinsic, non‐targeting dsRNA that significantly enhances immune responses by activating the regulated IRE1‐dependent decay‐RIG‐I signaling pathway. This research elucidates a previously uncharacterized mechanism for dsRNA‐mediated innate immune activation.
