Identification Of Mitotically Competent SOX2+ Cells In White Matter Of Normal Human Adult Brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
SOX2 expression is linked to the undifferentiated state of stem cells in mammalian neurogenic niches. While its expression has been reported in the adult human subventricular zone (SVZ), to date it has not been detected in adult human white matter.

Cadherin‐26 Facilitates Transepithelial Migration of Eosinophils in Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (eCRSwNP) is characterized by persistent sinonasal inflammation and marked eosinophilic infiltration. Although the relationship between eosinophils and NP formation has been extensively studied, the mechanisms governing eosinophil transepithelial migration into the nasal mucosa ...

Role of Rhodopsins as Circadian Photoreceptors in the Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesBiology, 2019
Light profoundly affects the circadian clock and the activity levels of animals. Along with the systematic changes in intensity and spectral composition, over the 24-h day, light shows considerable irregular fluctuations (noise).

Co‐Opting MBNL‐Dependent Alternative Splicing Cassette Exons to Control Gene Therapy in Myotonic Dystrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a highly variable, multisystemic genetic disorder caused by a CTG repeat expansion in the 3′ untranslated region of DMPK. Toxicity is exerted by repeat‐containing DMPK transcripts that sequester muscleblind‐like (MBNL) proteins and lead to deleterious yet predictable changes in alternative splicing.

Effects of a 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching agent on rat oral epithelium proliferation

open access: yesBrazilian Dental Journal, 2002
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the influence of short course topical application of carbamide peroxide on proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) immunohistochemical expression in the oral tongue mucosa of rats.

Non‐Synaptic Function and Localization of Syntaxin‐Binding Protein 1 in a Mouse Model of STXBP1‐Related Epileptic Encephalopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective De novo mutations in the syntaxin‐binding protein 1 (STXBP1), encoded by STXBP1, are among the most prevalent causes of variable neurodevelopmental disorders, including epileptic encephalopathy, developmental delay, and movement disorders.

ARC Expands the DAAM1 Microexon‐Mediated Actin–RHOA/ROCK Interplay

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Actin cytoskeleton and its dynamics play a crucial role in synaptic function, influencing dendritic spines' structural and functional plasticity. Recent findings unveiled the significance of alternative splicing of a neural‐specific microexon in DAAM1 in modulating actin's role in synaptic processes.

Microtubule heterogeneity of Ornithogalum umbellatum ovary epidermal cells: non-stable cortical microtubules and stable lipotubuloid microtubules

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2011
Lipotubuloids, structures containing lipid bodies and microtubules, are described in ovary epidermalcells of Ornithogalum umbellatum. Microtubules of lipotubuloids can be fixed in electron microscope fixativecontaining only buffered OsO4 or in ...

MASH1 activates expression of the paired homeodomain transcription factor Phox2a, and couples pan-neuronal and subtype-specific components of autonomic neuronal identity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We have investigated the genetic circuitry underlying the determination of neuronal identity, using mammalian peripheral autonomic neurons as a model system.
