Polymorphism of Heavy-Chain Genes in Immunoglobulins of Wild Mice
Science, 1966The serums of 123 wild mice from six different geographic locations in the United States contain five of the six known heavy-chain antigenic determinants that have been identified in immunoglobulin of inbred laboratory strains of mice. On the basis of the distribution of determinants in inbred strains, 44 of the mice were judged to be heterozygotes of ...

The role of gene deletion in the immunoglobulin heavy chain switch
Nature, 1980We have examined the arrangement of the genes for the mouse heavy chain subclasses gamma 2b, gamma 2a and gamma 1 by the Southern hybridisation procedure. Evidence has been found for rearrangement involving the gamma 2b and gamma 2a CH genes in the DNA of cells making IgG2b and IgG2a respectively.

T-cell idiotypes are linked to immunoglobulin heavy chain genes
Nature, 1976FOUR gene clusters have products that seem to participate in antigen binding on T or B lymphocytes. Three (the genes coding for the heavy and light chains of immunoglobulin molecules) are known to code for structural elements of B-cell receptors for antigen.

Mechanisms for feedback inhibition of the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus
Current Opinion in Immunology, 2004The production of immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) protein in pro-B cells provides feedback to terminate further V(H) gene recombination. This phenomenon is referred to as allelic exclusion. The chromatin structure of the V(H) genes regulates their recombination potential, hence alterations in chromatin are a key factor in allelic exclusion.

Addition of glucosamine and mannose to nascent immunoglobulin heavy chains
Biochemistry, 1977We have investigated the process of protein glycosylation in an attempt to answer the question of whether glucosamine and mannose are added to nascent chains prior to chain completion or only to completed chains after release from the ribosome. The MPC 11 mouse plasmacytoma cell line used in these studies synthesizes a glycosylated gamma2b heavy chain ...

Immunoglobulin heavy-chain switching in pre-B leukaemias
Nature, 1983Immunoglobulin gene expression is initiated in pre-B cells by rearrangements of heavy-chain variable genes V, D and J, for transcription together with the constant region gene C mu (refs 1-7). The subsequent joining of light-chain V-J genes in the kappa or lambda families leads to formation of complete IgM molecules, which are then expressed on the ...

The Transcription Factor, Bright, and Immunoglobulin Heavy Chain Expression
Immunologic Research, 2001Bright, or B cell regulator of immunoglobulin heavy chain transcription, is a B lymphocyte-specific protein first discovered for its ability to increase immunoglobulin transcription three- to sevenfold in antigen-activated B cells. It interacts with DNA through an ARID, or A/T-rich interaction domain, and is the only member of a previously undescribed ...
