Immunoglobulin M Paraproteinaemias. [PDF]

open access: yesCancers (Basel), 2020
Monoclonal paraproteinaemia is an increasingly common reason for referral to haematology services. Paraproteinaemias may be associated with life-threatening haematologic malignancies but can also be an incidental finding requiring only observation. Immunoglobulin M (IgM) paraproteinaemias comprise 15–20% of monoclonal proteins but pose unique clinical ...

Update on the hyper immunoglobulin M syndromes [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, 2010
SummaryThe Hyper‐immunoglobulin M syndromes (HIGM) are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders resulting in defects of immunoglobulin class switch recombination (CSR), with or without defects of somatic hypermutation (SHM). They can be classified as defects of signalling through CD40 causing both a humoral immunodeficiency and a susceptibility to ...

Diagnosis of toxoplasmosis by joint detection of immunoglobulin A and immunoglobulin M [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1997
An indirect immunofluorescence test with total anti-human immunoglobulin conjugate (IgG,A,M-IIF) can be used for joint detection of immunoglobulin A (IgA) and IgM antibodies, provided serum IgG is previously absorbed with anti-human IgG. To determine the validity of the IgG,A,M-IIF assay with absorbed sera, the results obtained were compared with those

Toxoplasmosis in immunoglobulin M-suppressed mice [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1982
Mice challenged with a pathogenic strain of Toxoplasma gondii develop fatal infections. However, if such mice are initially treated with sulfadiazine (SD), they develop immunity and survive with chronic infections. The role of antibody (Ab) in establishing protective immunity against acute parasitemias and in maintaining chronic infections was ...

Proteolysis of rabbit immunoglobulin M by papain [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1974
1. Digestion of rabbit immunoglobulin M (IgM) by papain for 5h, in the absence of reducing agent, gives Fabμ and Fc5μ fragments in high yield. Shorter periods give fragment Fc5μ with one or more Fabμ fragments still attached. 2. Reducing agent in the absence of a denaturant cleaves rabbit IgM into half-subunits, each containing one μ chain and one ...

Rapid method to detect rubella immunoglobulin M and immunoglobulin A antibodies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1975
Immunoglobulin (Ig) G was removed from serum specimens by precipitation with gamma chain-specific anti-human IgG of rabbit origin. The remaining rubella virus-specific IgM (and IgA) antibodies were then detected by the rubella hemagglutination-inhibition test.

Biosynthesis of the carbohydrate portions of immunoglobulin M [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1971
Incorporations of radioactive mannose, galactose and fucose into MOPC 104E mouse plasma-cell tumour suspensions suggest a stepwise addition of carbohydrate residues to immunoglobulin M (IgM) during the process of secretion. Mannose and glucosamine residues are added at an early stage, whereas galactose and fucose are added just before, or at the time ...

Hyper Immunoglobulin M Immunodeficiency (Dysgammaglobulinemia) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1979
The peripheral blood lymphocytes of nine patients with hyper immunoglobulin (Ig)M immunodeficiency were studied in an attempt to define the cellular basis of this disorder. B cells were normal in number but qualitatively abnormal in all patients. Approximately one-half of the B cell consisted of small lymphocytes (7-9 mum in diameter) bearing surface ...

Use of monoclonal antibodies to human immunoglobulin M in "capture" assays for measles and rubella immunoglobulin M [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1983
Monoclonal antibodies to human immunoglobulin M (IgM) were used in a four-phase enzyme immunofluorescence "capture" assay for determination of IgM antibodies to measles and rubella viruses. Little or no background reactivity was seen in the test system, and interfering effects of rheumatoid factor were avoided by preabsorption of test sera with ...

Effect of Colostral Immunoglobulin G1 and Immunoglobulin M Concentrations on Immunoglobulin Absorption in Calves

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1985
Twenty-three calves were fed colostrum at 110 ml/kg body weight divided into two feedings at 1 and 13 h of age. The concentrations of immunoglobulins were measured in the colostrum fed and in the calves' sera following colostrum feeding. Apparent efficiency of immunoglobulin absorption was calculated for each calf.
