Spontaneous Production of Immunoglobulin M in Human Epithelial Cancer Cells

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
It is well known that B-1 B cells are the main cell type that is responsible for the production of natural immunoglobulin M (IgM) and can respond to infection by increasing IgM secretion. However, we unexpectedly found that some epithelial cells also can

Landscape of BRAF transcript variants in human cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigate the annotation of BRAF variants, focusing on protein‐coding BRAF‐220 (formerly BRAF‐reference) and BRAF‐204 (BRAF‐X1). The IsoWorm pipeline allows us to quantify these variants in human cancer, starting from RNA‐sequencing data. BRAF‐204 is more abundant than BRAF‐220 and impacts patient survival.

Diagnostic significance of immunoglobulin M antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii detected after separation of immunoglobulin M from immunoglobulin G antibodies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1980
Failure to demonstrate immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies by indirect immunofluorescence (IgM-IFA) in sera from some patients with acute acquired toxoplasmosis has recently been attributed to an inhibitory effect of high titers of IgG antibodies in these sera (Pyndiah et al. J. Clin. Microbiol. 9:170-174, 1979).

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Triiodothyronine suppresses humoral immunity but not T-cell-mediated immune response in incubating female eiders (Somateria mollissima)

open access: yes, 2007
Immunity is believed to share limited resources with other physiological functions and this may partly account for the fitness costs of reproduction. Previous studies have shown that the acquired immunity of female common eiders (Somateria mollissima) is

Therapeutic applications of a novel humanized monoclonal antibody targeting chemokine receptor CCR9 in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
C–C chemokine receptor type 9 (CCR9) is an immune checkpoint in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Novel anti‐CCR9 antibody SRB2 was evaluated in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy in PDAC cells, patient‐derived organoids, patient‐derived xenografts, and humanized mouse models.

Mutations Affecting the Structure and Function of Immunoglobulin M [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1982
Using a hybridoma cell line which secretes hapten-specific immunoglobulin M (IgM), we have isolated a variety of mutants which produce abnormal immunoglobulin. Immunoglobulin was tested for the size and composition of the component heavy and light chains and for variable and constant region related functional and serological activities.

EGFR‐STAT3 activation provides a therapeutic rationale for targeting aggressive ETV1‐positive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cotargeting EGFR and STAT3 with Erlotinib and TTI‐101 impairs both 2D and 3D growth of ETV1‐overexpressing prostate cancer cells by disrupting a self‐sustaining ETV1–EGFR positive feedback loop that promotes EGFR and STAT3 expression and phosphorylation (activation).

Human Immunoglobulin M Memory B Cells Controlling Streptococcus pneumoniae Infections Are Generated in the Spleen

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 2003
Splenectomized and asplenic patients have a high incidence of infections by encapsulated bacteria and do not respond to polysaccharide vaccines. To understand whether the absence of the spleen is associated with a defined B cell defect, we analyzed B ...
