Long-term sublingual immunotherapy for peanut allergy in children: Clinical and immunologic evidence of desensitization [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2019
Peanut sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for 1 year has been shown to induce modest clinical desensitization in allergic children. Studies of oral immunotherapy, epicutaneous immunotherapy, and SLIT have suggested additional benefit with extended treatment. We sought to investigate the safety, clinical effectiveness, and immunologic changes with long-term

Immunologic observations during desensitization and maintenance of clinical tolerance to penicillin

open access: bronzeJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1983
A nurse anesthetist who had experienced four systemic allergic reactions attributed to penicillin exposure was safely and successfully desensitized to penicillin despite predominantly minor determinant allergy (benzyl penicilloate skin test was positive at 1:100,000 dilution of standard 10 mM solution).

Studies of desensitization and cross-desensitization to immunologic and nonimmunologic stimuli that evoke contraction and histamine release in superfused guinea pig trachea

open access: bronzeJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1991
This study examined the possibility that there is cross-desensitization between immunologic and nonimmunologic stimuli that evoke contraction and histamine release (HR) in the isolated guinea pig trachea. Compound 48/80 and D-tubocurarine were found to cause homologous and heterologous desensitization for both contraction and HR from superfused trachea.

Sublingual immunotherapy for peanut allergy: Clinical and immunologic evidence of desensitization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2011
There are no treatments currently available for peanut allergy. Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is a novel approach to the treatment of peanut allergy. We sought to investigate the safety, clinical effectiveness, and immunologic changes with SLIT in children with peanut allergy. In this double-blind, placebo-controlled study subjects underwent 6 months ...

Successful desensitization with proteasome inhibition and costimulation blockade in sensitized nonhuman primates

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2017
: The detrimental effects of donor-directed antibodies in sensitized transplant patients remain a difficult immunologic barrier to successful organ transplantation. Antibody removal is often followed by rebound.

Egg desensitization is achieved effectively and safely through a low maintenance dose protocol [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: Global
Background: Egg allergy is a common IgE-mediated food allergy in children. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) reduces allergic reactions via gradual allergen exposure.

Considerations for biologics as front-line treatment in allergic diseases [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
The therapeutic landscape of allergic diseases has been transformed by the advent of biologics targeting key immunologic pathways. These therapies offer disease-modifying potential across a spectrum of conditions including asthma, atopic dermatitis ...

Biologics in IgE-mediated food allergy: A systematic review and meta-analysis of interventional studies [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Allergy Organization Journal
Background and aims: IgE-mediated food allergy (FA) is a major healthcare problem, affecting millions of children and adults worldwide. FA management usually involves elimination diets; however, there is increasing interest in alternative strategies that
