An integrated modeling perspective on climate change mitigation and co-benefits in the transport sector

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Transport research has long focused on comparing climate change mitigation strategies. However, it remains unclear how the effects of different strategies on climate and non-climate externalities compare. This paper assesses the mitigation potential of a

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Timing of a future glaciation in view of anthropogenic climate change

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Human activities are expected to delay the next glacial inception because of the long atmospheric lifetime of anthropogenic CO2. Here we present Earth system model simulations for the next 200,000 years with dynamic ice sheets and interactive atmospheric

Assessing the lifetime of anthropogenic CO2 and its sensitivity to different carbon cycle processes [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences
Although it is well-established that anthropogenic CO2 emitted into the atmosphere will persist for a long time, the duration of the anthropogenic climate perturbation will depend on how rapidly the excess CO2 is removed from the climate system by ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

The state of OA: a large-scale analysis of the prevalence and impact of Open Access articles

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Despite growing interest in Open Access (OA) to scholarly literature, there is an unmet need for large-scale, up-to-date, and reproducible studies assessing the prevalence and characteristics of OA.

Combined effects of climate and land-use change on the provision of ecosystem services in rice agro-ecosystems

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2017
Irrigated rice croplands are among the world’s most important agro-ecosystems. They provide food for more than 3.5 billion people and a range of other ecosystem services (ESS).
