Electron-impact excitation and ionization of atomic calcium at intermediate energies

open access: yes, 2019
We present a comprehensive study of electron collisions with calcium atoms by using the con-vergent B-spline R-matrix method. Elastic, excitation, and ionization cross sections were obtained for all transitions between the lowest 39 physical states of ...

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

A Continuous Compact DC Model for Dual-Independent-Gate FinFETs

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2017
Multiple-independent-gate (MIG) silicon FinFETs were recently shown capable of enabling: 1) device-level polarity control; 2) dynamic threshold modulation; and 3) subthreshold slope tuning down to ultra-steep-slope operation.

Improving Gain Efficiency in Planar Impact Ionization Devices

open access: yes, 2010
The Solid-state Impact-ionization Multiplier (SIM) was designed to amplify signals from arbitrary current sources through impact ionization. A primary application is amplification of signals produced by photodiodes.

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

A PLANAR n⁺ –n–n⁺ GaAs DIODE WITH GaInAs-BASED GRADED-GAP ACTIVE SIDE BOUNDARYN [PDF]

open access: yesRadio Physics and Radio Astronomy
Subject and Purpose. The generation of millimeter-wave oscillations by a planar GaAs diode with active side boundary (ASB) is considered. The diode structure is placed on a semiconductor semi-insulating substrate and represents a GaAs channel ...

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.
