Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Rate-dependent constitutive behavior and mechanism of CMDB under tension loading

open access: yesPolymer Testing
The composite modified double-base propellants (CMDB) were experimentally investigated for mechanical behavior under wide tension strain rate loading from 0.0001 s−1 to 2500 s−1, based on Instron mechanical machine and modified Hopkinson tension bar ...

The effect of temperature changes on to quasi-static tensile and flexural performance of glass fibre reinforced PA66 composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A significant method of reducing CO2 emissions in road vehicles is to reduce the vehicle mass. One means in which this can be achieved is to adopt lightweight materials such as thermoplastic composites.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Data-driven prediction of dimensionless quantities for semi-infinite target penetration by integrating machine-learning and feature selection methods

open access: yesDefence Technology
This study employs a data-driven methodology that embeds the principle of dimensional invariance into an artificial neural network to automatically identify dominant dimensionless quantities in the penetration of rod projectiles into semi-infinite metal ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Superior strain-hardening and strength-ductility synergy by hierarchical L12 phases in a highly (Al, Ti)-added medium-entropy alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
A novel precipitate-strengthened Co–Cr–Ni medium-entropy alloy with a pure “FCC + L12” dual-phase structure is developed by adding a high concentration (6 at.%) of Al and Ti elements.

Composite impact strength improvement through a fiber/matrix interphase [PDF]

open access: yes
Research was conducted to improve the impact strength and toughness of fiber/resin composites by means of a fiber coating interphase. Graphite fiber/epoxy resin composites were fabricated with four different fiber coating systems introduced in a matrix ...
