Crack in an imperfect interface in composites

Mechanics of Materials, 1991
Abstract The behavior of cracks at the interface of composites is studied. The geometry of the composite is idealized as two-dimensional, isotropic, linearly “elastic” infinite strips made of two different materials joined by a damaged layer approximated by continuous distributed shear and tension springs.

Bounds for the effective conductivity of a composite with an imperfect interface

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001
The problem of bounding the effective conductivity of a two-phase composite with an imperfect interface is considered. The interface can be either highly conducting or resistive, and both the material properties and geometric arrangement of the phases ...

Bulk and interface imperfections in semiconductors

Solid-State Electronics, 1976
Abstract Charges trapped at imperfection centers can be detected by observing the slow time dependences of the high-frequency small-signal capacitance and the current of a space charge region which is depleted of carriers. Detection of as low as 1010 to 1011 trapped electron charges per cm3 in a volume of 10−3 cm × 10−3 cm2, or 105 to 10 electron ...

Correctors for the Homogenization of a Class of Hyperbolic Equations with Imperfect Interfaces

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2009
We present here some corrector results for the homogenization of the wave equation in a two-component composite with $\varepsilon$-periodic connected inclusions which complete the homogenization results proved in [P. Donato, L. Faella, and S. Monsurro, J. Math. Pures Appl., 87 (2007), pp. 119–143] by the authors.

Multiscale and Multiphysics Modeling of Imperfect Interfaces

Interphases between solids are crucial for understanding the behavior of composite artificial and natural structures. Due to the thinness of these interphases, numerical modeling using finite element analysis may be challenging. Asymptotic techniques, modeling the interphase as an interface, are viable alternatives.

Screw dislocation interacting with imperfect interface

Mechanics of Materials, 2003
The study of dislocations interacting with interfaces is of great interest to understand the strengthening and hardening mechanisms in materials. Most of the existing results in this field dealt with perfect interfaces where the displacements are continuous across interfaces.

Ultrasonic classification of imperfect interfaces

Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 1992
Ultrasonic reflection measurements from material interfaces are commonly used to detect and quantitatively characterize boundary imperfections of different kinds. Either shear or longitudinal waves can be used to assess the degree of the interface imperfection in acoustical terms.

The Spherical Inclusion With Imperfect Interface

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1991
A rigorous solution of the spherical inclusion problem with remote uniform strain or stress and imperfect elastic spring-type interface conditions is presented. In the case of thin elastic interphase, the interface spring constants are expressed in terms of interphase elastic properties and thickness.

Interface imperfections in metal/Si multilayers

Journal of Applied Physics, 1992
The structural and optical properties of Mo/Si and Ru/Si x-ray multilayers prepared by sputter deposition in argon have been examined using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, optical profilometry, and x-ray and soft x-ray reflectance. We find that for Ru/Si, similar to previous results for Mo/Si, lower argon pressure during deposition ...

Multilayer multiferroic composites with imperfect interfaces

Smart Materials and Structures, 2018
We study the macroscopic behaviors of multilayered multiferroic composites with interface imperfections by a direct micromechanical approach. Both generalized interface stress type and generalized linear spring type imperfect interfaces are considered.
