Micromechanics of imperfect interfaces in heterogeneous materials

Composites, 1994
Abstract In the design of strong engineered materials-containing fibres or particulates to be used for impact and abrasive wear, one important problem is the magnitude of the stress concentration around these second-phase constituents. Analytical solutions for cylindrical and spherical inclusions embedded within infinite matrices are reviewed and ...

The Stefan Problem With an Imperfect Thermal Contact at the Interface

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1982
The Stefan problem in a semi-infinite region with arbitrarily prescribed initial and boundary conditions, subject to a condition of the mixed type at the interface is investigated. To establish the exact solution of the problem, some new basic solutions of the heat equation are offered. Their mathematical properties are also supplied.

Multiscale Manipulation of Functional Imperfection Atomic Interfaces

Accounts of Chemical Research
ConspectusThe imperfect atomic interfaces (IAIs) refer to the interface area with incomplete crystal structure formed by precise atomic-scale structure modulation. Unlike the traditional perfectly crystalline interfaces, IAIs show structural defects and symmetry breaking in their atomic arrangement and coordination environment.

Thin interphase/imperfect interface in conduction

Journal of Applied Physics, 2001
Thin interphase between two media is modeled in terms of imperfect interface conditions in the context of potential theory, thus for conduction, dielectric behavior, and permeability. There is no limitation on the magnitude of interphase material conductivity.

On Oscillation of Layered Structures with Imperfect Interfaces

2006
Asymptotic models are considered for propagation of waves in layered structures containing imperfect interfaces. An imperfect interface is defined as a surface where unknown functions and their derivatives may have discontinuities. For thin layered structures we derive lower dimensional models and analyze the dispersion equations for propagating waves.

An analysis of decohesion along an imperfect interface

International Journal of Fracture, 1990
A cohesive zone type interface model, taking full account of finite geometry changes, is used to study the decohesion of a viscoplastic block from a rigid substrate. The specific boundary value problem analyzed is a plane strain one with the imposed loading corresponding to overall uniaxial straining.

Imperfect Interfaces and Discrete Lattice Structures

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 2002
We propose a model where a lattice structure is used within an interface layer of finite thickness. An evolution problem is set and studied to analyze the structural changes within the interface during the deformation. Numerical examples are presented for the case of a triangular lattice structure.
