Influence of a single preoperative dose of antibiotics on the early implant failure rate. A randomized clinical trial

open access: yes, 2019
Background The use of a preoperative single dose of antibiotics as routine in conjunction with implant surgery is controversial, in light of the unclear effect on early implant failure rate and risk for development of resistant bacterial strains. Purpose

Fractography of a neck failure in a double-modular hip implant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
: The tapered joints of modular hip implants are prone to fretting and crevice-corrosion. This can lead to total failure in under a year, especially for heavier, more active implant recipients.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Implant Failure Associated With Actinomycosis in a Medically Compromised Patient

open access: yes, 2013
Oral actinomycosis is not a common disease, but it can cause massive destruction. This article reports a case of implant failure associated with actinomycosis. A 55-year-old Caucasian male patient had tooth #20 extracted years ago and an implant placed 3

A comparative study evaluating implant success and bone loss in diabetes and nondiabetes

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences, 2021
Background: Diabetes is seen to be associated with increased rate of failure of implants. The implant failure can be categorized as ailing, failing, and failed implants. The review of literature did not form any consensus on the effect of diabetes on the

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Overcoming single dental implant failure using two small implant support for one crown: five year retrospective study

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction Overcoming a dental implant failure/osseo-disintegration is still a dilemma for implantologists. Using two implants to support for one crown is a novel approach to resolve this issue.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Implant Failure Predictors in the Posterior Maxilla: A Retrospective Study of 273 Consecutive Implants

open access: yes, 2008
Background: The goal of this study was to retrospectively analyze a cohort of 136 patients who underwent dental implant placement in the posterior maxilla at the University of Connecticut Health Center to assess and identify predictors for implant ...
