Factors Affecting Implementation of the California Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (CA-CORD) Project, 2013. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
IntroductionEcological approaches to health behavior change require effective engagement from and coordination of activities among diverse community stakeholders. We identified facilitators of and barriers to implementation experienced by project leaders

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

What Does it Take to Make Discovery a Success?: A Survey of Discovery Tool Adoption, Instruction, and Evaluation Among Academic Libraries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Discovery tools have been widely adopted by academic libraries, yet little information exists that connects common practices regarding discovery tool implementation, maintenance, assessment, and staffing with conventions for research and instruction. The

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Predicting suicide death among veterans after psychiatric hospitalization using transformer based models with social determinants and NLP

open access: yesScientific Reports
Predictions of suicide death of patients discharged from psychiatric hospitals (PDPH) can guide intervention efforts including intensive post-discharge case management programs, designed to reduce suicide risk among high-risk patients. This study aims to

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Implementation research: Issues and prospects [PDF]

open access: yesAddictive Behaviors, 2011
The concern that addiction treatment be grounded in science has been recognized and enthusiastically endorsed in both the clinical and research communities. With recognition of the gap between knowledge development and application, there has been a recent emphasis on developing strategies for more effective application, i.e., for the incorporation of ...
