Calculation of Impulse Grounding Resistance of Extended Grounding Electrode
2013In order to calculate the impulse grounding resistance of extended grounding electrode accurately, this paper introduces a method for computing the impulse grounding resistance based on the spark discharge characteristic of the earth, using a nonlinear differential circuit model. The relation curves of impulse grounding resistance with the current peak

Abstract Impulse coefficient is calculated, for the first time, by considering the response of the current injection electrode connected to ground grids for lightning subsequent return strokes. It is observed that the impulse coefficient can be substantially amplified specially for low resistivity soils (e.g.

The flow of the lightning current through the grounding grids of electrical substations produces impulse processes in the soil. The authors have developed a simulation model of the grounding, considering the wave processes. To expand the model, determination of the maximum possible touch voltage in these processes have to be done.

Modeling Research on Time-Varying Impulse Resistance of Grounding Grid
2018The behavior of grounding systems excited by high-current show great differs from that at low-frequency and low-current. Simulation of high-current draining to earth require accurate modeling of tower grounding system. The current model cannot meet this requirement.

An original setup to measure grounding resistances using fast impulse currents and very short leads
Electric Power Systems Research, 2019Abstract This paper presents a method for measuring grounding resistances, which is based on the use of fast impulse current and short leads on the auxiliary measurement circuits. Usually, the conductor length of the voltage and current circuits used in grounding resistance measurements may be quite long depending on the grounding characteristics ...

The lightning protection effects of power transmission lines are related to the impulse characteristics of grounding systems of transmission-line towers. The influences of several main factors on impulse grounding properties are systematically analyzed by simulation experiments according to the simulation theory in this study.

AbstractThis paper describes a newly developed impulse voltage generator (IG). It has the following features: (1) The IG consists of three components (a 1.6 MV unit, a 1.4‐MV unit and a base box); this facilitates mounting on 10‐ton trucks, therefore making it easier to move to a test field.

A simplified method for calculating the impulse resistance of vertical grounding rods
2002 IEEE Region 10 Conference on Computers, Communications, Control and Power Engineering. TENCOM '02. Proceedings., 2003A simplified method is proposed for calculating the impulse resistance of vertical grounding rods. The analytic formula is first derived to determine the low current resistance and then the calculation procedure is developed to estimate the impulse resistance.

Lightning strikes may cause a rise in transmission tower potential which could produce a tower-to-phase flashover. This paper presents a computer-modeled technique applied to study this phenomena. 120 kV and 315 kV power lines have been modeled. Transmission tower potential is presented.
