Impulse Characteristics of Ground Electrodes in Low Resistivity Soil
IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2023Soil properties have been known to be the factors that influence the ionization process in soil, which cause the impulse impedance, Zimpulse to be lower than that at steady state resistance, RDC. Many studies have established the relationship between the percentage reduction of Zimpulse from RDC in such that the percentage reduction is more pronounced ...

The measurement of impulse grounding resistance and inductance of grounding network
Proceedings of EMPD '98. 1998 International Conference on Energy Management and Power Delivery (Cat. No.98EX137), 2002It is well known that accurate measurement of grounding resistance and inductance under impulse voltage is of great importance for safe operation of electrical and electronic equipment. It is the behavior of grounding objects under impulse voltage instead under DC voltage that determine the safe operation of equipment.

Measurements of grounding resistances for high impulse currents
IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1998The paper presents field measurements of surge characteristics of a concrete pole, a buried single conductor and a grounding net for high-impulse currents with a maximum magnitude of 40 kA and with a wavefront duration of a few microseconds. The measured results show that the grounding resistances are greatly dependent on the applied currents and have ...

Electric Power Components and Systems, 2015
AbstractThis article presents the results of experimental investigation concerned with the “A”-type grounding system's impulse characteristics, which are utilized for grounding of high-voltage transmission line towers. The investigation results point to the presence of high-frequency components in voltage and current signals that are not caused by ...

Abstract This work shows a procedure to compute the resistance and harmonic impedance of horizontal grounding electrodes buried in a vertically stratified soil. Such electrodes can be parallel or perpendicular to the interface of the vertically stratified soil. An additional resistive element is developed for such condition of soil. A procedure based

Modeling Research on Time-Varying Impulse Resistance of Grounding Grid
2018The behavior of grounding systems excited by high-current show great differs from that at low-frequency and low-current. Simulation of high-current draining to earth require accurate modeling of tower grounding system. The current model cannot meet this requirement.

Abstract Impulse coefficient is calculated, for the first time, by considering the response of the current injection electrode connected to ground grids for lightning subsequent return strokes. It is observed that the impulse coefficient can be substantially amplified specially for low resistivity soils (e.g.

A simplified method for calculating the impulse resistance of vertical grounding rods
2002 IEEE Region 10 Conference on Computers, Communications, Control and Power Engineering. TENCOM '02. Proceedings., 2003A simplified method is proposed for calculating the impulse resistance of vertical grounding rods. The analytic formula is first derived to determine the low current resistance and then the calculation procedure is developed to estimate the impulse resistance.
