Measurements of grounding resistances for high impulse currents
IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1998The paper presents field measurements of surge characteristics of a concrete pole, a buried single conductor and a grounding net for high-impulse currents with a maximum magnitude of 40 kA and with a wavefront duration of a few microseconds. The measured results show that the grounding resistances are greatly dependent on the applied currents and have ...

A New Impulse Grounding Resistance Measuring Instrument
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010This paper introduces a convolution calculation method first, and thus to design a portable shock resistance measuring instrument. With the MATLAB simulation of software and field measurements of the measurement instrument, obtain the satisfactory results, thus proving the usefulness of this method.

Experimental Investigation of Impulse Resistance of Different Type Grounding Electrodes
2020 International Multi-Conference on Industrial Engineering and Modern Technologies (FarEastCon), 2020When spreading large pulsed currents in the soil, the electrical properties of the soil, as well as the characteristics of grounding, may differ significantly from the values obtained when spreading a weak stationary current. This is due to the ionization of the soil near the electrode and the formation of spark channels, which leads to a noticeable ...

Abstract This work shows a procedure to compute the resistance and harmonic impedance of horizontal grounding electrodes buried in a vertically stratified soil. Such electrodes can be parallel or perpendicular to the interface of the vertically stratified soil. An additional resistive element is developed for such condition of soil. A procedure based

Modeling Research on Time-Varying Impulse Resistance of Grounding Grid
2018The behavior of grounding systems excited by high-current show great differs from that at low-frequency and low-current. Simulation of high-current draining to earth require accurate modeling of tower grounding system. The current model cannot meet this requirement.

Abstract Impulse coefficient is calculated, for the first time, by considering the response of the current injection electrode connected to ground grids for lightning subsequent return strokes. It is observed that the impulse coefficient can be substantially amplified specially for low resistivity soils (e.g.

Calculation of Impulse Grounding Resistance of Extended Grounding Electrode
2013In order to calculate the impulse grounding resistance of extended grounding electrode accurately, this paper introduces a method for computing the impulse grounding resistance based on the spark discharge characteristic of the earth, using a nonlinear differential circuit model. The relation curves of impulse grounding resistance with the current peak
