On the impulse response of LTI systems

Proceedings of the 2001 American Control Conference. (Cat. No.01CH37148), 2001
The problem of inferring the oscillatory behavior of the impulse and step responses of a system from the location of poles and zeros of its transfer function has practical importance. The authors first show that all the induced norms of a LTI system equal the zero frequency gain of its transfer function, if its impulse response is nonnegative.

On the Dimensions and Interpretation of Impulse Response

International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education, 2006
A difficulty that electronic and electrical engineering students traditionally have in reconciling taught material covering convolution and impulse responses revolves, at least partly, around the problem of dimensions or units. It is suggested that confusion can be minimised, or avoided, by making explicit reference to the units that an impulse ...

Response inhibition and impulsivity in schizophrenia

Psychiatry Research, 2008
Response inhibition in schizophrenia remains controversial, with behavioral correlates largely unknown. Inpatients with schizophrenia and controls completed a stop task and an impulsiveness questionnaire. Slower inhibitory processes were evident in schizophrenia, but there was no association with impulsivity. The nature of inhibition and impulsivity in

Heart response to horizontal impulse

Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology, 1998
Lumped body parameters linear and nonlinear models have been developed and used for the analysis of the response of the heart in a seated human body due to impulsive horizontal inputs at various body segments. The acceleration transfer magnitude and phase due to impulsive inputs at various body segments are reported.

Minimum-phase impulse response channels

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2009
We give a sufficient condition that insures that the impulse response of a channel is of minimum phase. The condition is that the energy of the first path be larger than the power spectral density of all subsequent paths. Establishing a lower bound to the first path energy, this condition is more likely to be met if transmitter and receiver are in line-

Impulse Response Function

2008
Sims (1980) questioned the way classical simultaneous equations models were specified and identified. He argued in particular that the exogeneity assumptions for some of the variables are often problematic. As an alternative he advocated the use of vector autoregressive (VAR) models for macroeconometric analysis. These models have the form where y t = (

Nonlinear innovations and impulse responses [PDF]

open access: possible, 1999
This paper introduces a concept of innovation for the analysis of nonlinear dynamics. We show that nonlinear processes can be represented as functions of current and lagged values of such innovations. The residuals from nonlinear dynamic models axe used to construct various specification tests.

Are Impulse Responses Gaussian Noises?

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011
Many years ago, Manfred Schroeder proved that transfer functions in rooms follow complex Gaussian distributions. This property was extended to impulse responses by the author, following a suggestion by Moorer for simulating impulse responses. More recently, several authors have checked again the later property with modern signal analysis tools.

On the nerve impulse equation: The dynamic responses of nerve impulse

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1978
With the assumption of dipole interaction with the membrane matrix, the dipole barrier under an applied field shows a minimum in its time transient. Kinetic equations governing the migration of ions are presented. Na+ activation, Na+ inactivation and K+ delay are all part of the same mechanism in this model with no other separate assumptions needed ...

Nonlinear impulse responses

2010
AbstractThis short chapter presents an important tool in interpreting estimated nonlinear models: the generalized impulse response function which is a random variable and thus has a distribution. Representing these functions, that is, estimated densities, using so‐called highest density regions is considered.
