In Ovo Electroporation Methods in Chick Embryos

2017
To elucidate a gene function, in vivo analysis is indispensable. We can carry out gain and loss of function experiment of a gene of interest by electroporation in ovo and ex ovo culture system on early-stage and advanced-stage chick embryos, respectively.

In Ovo and Ex Ovo Methods to Study Avian Inner Ear Development.

Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE, 2022
The inner ear perceives sound and maintains balance using the cochlea and vestibule. It does this by using a dedicated mechanosensory cell type known as the hair cell. Basic research in the inner ear has led to a deep understanding of how the hair cell functions, and how dysregulation can lead to hearing loss and vertigo.

Calcium homeostasis in in ovo and ex ovo turkey embryos.

Growth, development, and aging : GDA, 1995
Calcium homeostasis of in ovo (normal) and ex ovo (shell-less) turkey embryos was investigated at 15, 18, and 21 days of incubation. Hypocalcemia and an elevation in circulating 1,25(OH)2D3 in ex ovo embryos were observed by 15 days. Calcium and phosphorus concentrations in femora and tibiae in ex ovo embryos were significantly lower compared to their ...

In Ovo Electroporation in Embryonic Chick Spinal Cords

2013
The developing spinal cord is a well-established model system widely used to study the signaling pathways and genetic programs that control neuronal/glial differentiation and neural circuit assembly. This is largely due to the relatively simple organization (compared to other CNS regions) and experimental accessibility of the neural tube, particularly ...

Magnetic resonance microscopy of chick embryos in ovo

Teratology, 1988
AbstractMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the live 11‐day chick embryo with special radiofrequency coils and 3‐D imaging methods has produced contiguous 1.25‐mm‐thick slices with 200‐μm pixel resolution, permitting definition of cardiac chambers, cerebral ventricles, spinal cord, liver, and lungs.

In ovo vaccination of chicken eggs

2023
This chapter reviews in ovo vaccination of chicken eggs. It first discusses the history and evolution of in ovo vaccination, then goes on to highlight the various interacting factors of in ovo vaccination success. A section on additional interactions and considerations are also provided, focusing specifically on egg candling for viability, chick ...

In Ovo Intravascular Injection in Chicken Embryos.

Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE, 2022
As a classical model system of embryo biology, the chicken embryo has been used to investigate embryonic development and differentiation. Delivering exogenous materials into chicken embryos has a great advantage for studying gene function, transgenic breeding, and chimera preparation during embryonic development.

In ovo Pathogenicity of Mycoplasma iners Strain Oz

Avian Diseases, 1995
Embryonating chicken eggs were inoculated with the type strain (PG30) of Mycoplasma iners and with an additional strain of this species designated Oz. Marked gross and histopathologic lesions were observed in the embryos inoculated with strain Oz but not in those infected with strain PG30.

In ovo electroporation in embryonic chick retina.

Journal of visualized experiments : JoVE, 2012
Chicken embryonic retina is an excellent tool to study retinal development in higher vertebrates. Because of large size and external development, it is comparatively very easy to manipulate the chick embryonic retina using recombinant DNA/RNA technology.
