Time-lapse imaging of the dynamics of CNS glial-axonal interactions in vitro and ex vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background Myelination is an exquisite and dynamic example of heterologous cell-cell interaction, which consists of the concentric wrapping of multiple layers of oligodendrocyte membrane around neuronal axons.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Localized Hypoxia Results in Spatially Heterogeneous Metabolic Signatures in Breast Tumor Models

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2012
Tumor hypoxia triggers signaling cascades that significantly affect biologic outcomes such as resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy in breast cancer. Hypoxic regions in solid tumor are spatially heterogeneous.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Individual in vivo Profiles of Microglia Polarization After Stroke, Represented by the Genes iNOS and Ym1

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Microglia are the brain-innate immune cells which actively surveil their environment and mediate multiple aspects of neuroinflammation, due to their ability to acquire diverse activation states and phenotypes. Simplified, M1-like microglia are defined as

Validation of an Automatic Arousal Detection Algorithm for Whole-Night Sleep EEG Recordings

open access: yesClocks & Sleep, 2020
Arousals during sleep are transient accelerations of the EEG signal, considered to reflect sleep perturbations associated with poorer sleep quality. They are typically detected by visual inspection, which is time consuming, subjective, and prevents good ...

In vivo imaging of zebrafish embryogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesMethods, 2013
The zebrafish Danio rerio has emerged as a powerful vertebrate model system that lends itself particularly well to quantitative investigations with live imaging approaches, owing to its exceptionally high optical clarity in embryonic and larval stages.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Multimodality Imaging of Tumour Pathophysiology and Response to Pharmacological Intervention [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This thesis describes the need for imaging the tumour pathophysiological microenvironment in order to understand response to treatment. Specifically looking at tumour vascularisation in in vivo murine xenograft models of disease, response to treatment ...
