Behavioral and Historical Processes Jointly Maintain Genetic Connectivity in Fragmented Chinese Water Deer Populations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
We challenge a major paradigm in mammalian ecology by demonstrating female‐biased dispersal in an artiodactyl, the endangered Chinese water deer. This key behavioral mechanism drives high gene flow across a fragmented landscape, effectively creating a genetic rescue effect that maintains population connectivity and counters inbreeding. ABSTRACT Habitat

Bias in the Estimation of Inbreeding Coefficient and Probability of Origin of Qenes with Errors in Genealogy

open access: yes, 2014
The estimations of the inbreeding coefficient and of the probability of origin of genes are usually based upon genealogical information and are therefore sensitive to various errors such as misassignment of paternity or maternity, faults in documents or ...

Natives Against Invaders: Shared Use of Space and Temporal Segregation of Clouded Tiger‐Cats (Leopardus pardinoides) and Domestic Dogs (Canis familiaris) in an Isolated Protected Area

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
We studied the spatial and temporal relationships between clouded tiger‐cats and dogs in an isolated protected area of Colombia. Dogs influenced the activity patterns of clouded tiger‐cats but not their habitat use. Conservation actions should be directed to mitigate potential contact between both species.

Multi‐Layered Genomic and Clinical Analysis Identifies Novel Variants, Co‐Occurring Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Pairs, and Clinical Determinants of Host‐Pathogen Interaction in COVID‐19 Severity

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Host genetic factors may contribute to COVID‐19 severity. To identify genetic variants influencing COVID‐19 severity progression, whole‐exome sequencing was performed, followed by an exome‐wide association study on 191 hospitalized patients categorized into three severity groups.

Phenotypic Refinement of ESAM‐Related Tight‐Junctionopathy: Novel Genetic and Ocular Findings and Literature Review

open access: yesMolecular Genetics &Genomic Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Overview of neurological, ocular, and genetic findings in individuals with bi‐allelic loss‐of‐function (LoF) ESAM variants. All affected subjects (n = 21) exhibited characteristic neurovascular and neurodevelopmental anomalies, while 45% also showed ocular (mainly retinal) involvement.

Is Self‐Pollination Sufficient to Maximise Seed Set and Fruit Quality in Kiwifruit Hermaphrodites?

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science, Volume 54, Issue 2, June 2026.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether supplementary pollination of each of two hermaphrodite kiwifruit selections was likely to produce any significant improvement in seed set or fruit quality, compared with self‐pollination alone. Three main pollination treatments were applied to floral shoots: self‐pollination alone and self‐pollination ...

Genetic control of wheat flour end‐use quality and rheology by genome‐wide association studies

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Improving end‐use quality in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) requires dissecting the genetic basis of complex processing traits and deploying robust prediction pipelines in breeding. We performed genome‐wide association studies (GWASs) using 1767 high‐quality single‐nucleotide polymorphisms generated by genotyping‐by‐sequencing in a diverse ...
