Isolation and identification of versatile Bacillus aryabhattai and their effect on plant growth promotion and essential oil yield in Eryngium foetidum L

open access: yesDiscover Plants
Eryngium foetidum L. is a promising horticultural crop known for its numerous medicinal properties. Therefore, cultivating E. foetidum L. using sustainable practices is essential, which can be achieved by modifying the rhizospheric architecture of the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Measuring School Principals’ Well-Being: Validation of an Instrument

open access: yesEducation Sciences
The article reports on the development and validation of an instrument to measure the well-being of public-school principals in Gauteng, South Africa, based on a specific theoretical framework. Adopting a quantitative, post-positivist paradigm, data were

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

CO2 fluxes of high resolution incubation measurements

open access: yes, 2023
Soil samples were taken in the bog site of the Siikaneva peat complex and adjacent shrub-belt and forest site in Ruovesi, Finland. Samples were characterized by measuring water content, bulk density, C and N content and further parameters.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Incubation of the ostrich [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1883
I HAVE received the following letter from Mr. J. E. Harting, and with his permission send it to you for publication. I do so partly in justice to Mr. Harting himself—the letter having been originally written to the Spectator in vindication of his own accuracy, and having been rejected by the editor—and partly because I think it desirable that the point

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Ovicidal Activity of 2-Hydroxy-4-Methoxybenzaldehyde, Derivatives and Structural Analogues on Anopheles gambiae Eggs

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry
Effective remedies for disrupting An. gambiae metamorphosis at the egg stage are crucial in suppression of the malaria vector populations that result in the reduction of disease burden.
