Spectrum of a Class of Difference Operators with Indefinite Weights

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics and Physics, 2020
In this study, we use analytical methods and Sylvester inertia theorem to research a class of second order difference operators with indefinite weights and coupled boundary conditions. The eigenvalue problem with sign-changing weight has lasted a long time.

Characteristics, properties and limitations of per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and fluoropolymers

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
An overview and categorization of man‐made per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) including low‐molar‐mass and high‐molar‐mass fluorochemicals, and their international regulations is presented. Though certain PFASs are toxic, bioaccumulative and cross the human cellular membranes, others, such as fluoropolymers, are safe, reliable and involved in ...

Steklov problem with an indefinite weight for the p-Laplacian

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2005
Let $Omegasubsetmathbb{R}^{N}$, with $Ngeq2$, be a Lipschitz domain and let 1 lees than p less than $infty$. We consider the eigenvalue problem $Delta_{p}u=0$ in $Omega$ and $| abla u|^{p-2}frac{partial u}{partial u}=lambda m|u|^{p-2}u$ on $partialOmega$

Some remarks on an eigenvalue problem for an anisotropic elliptic equation with indefinite weight

open access: yesFilomat, 2019
In this paper, we consider an eigenvalue problem for an anisotropic elliptic equation with indefinite weight, in which the differential operator involves partial derivatives with different variable exponents.

Singular Sturm?Liouville problems with nonnegative and indefinite weights

open access: yesMonatshefte fr Mathematik, 1984
This article is concerned with the oscillatory properties of the eigenfunctions of a class of singular Sturm-Liouville problems \(- (py')'+qy=\lambda wy\) on (a,b), where the weight function w vanishes on a subinterval of positive measure, or where the weight function w changes sign on (a,b).

Can ensemble‐based parameter estimation aid parameterization design?

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Parameterization schemes rely on uncertain empirical parameters, the values of which can be estimated objectively and iteratively with ensemble data assimilation methods. Since all sources of forecast error in the background ensemble project onto parameter adjustments, the estimated parameters may converge to implausible values or not converge at all ...

Multi‐Objective Robust Controller Synthesis With Integral Quadratic Constraints in Discrete‐Time

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article presents a novel framework for the robust controller synthesis problem in discrete‐time systems using dynamic Integral Quadratic Constraints (IQCs). We present an algorithm to minimize closed‐loop performance measures such as the ℋ∞$$ {\mathscr{H}}_{\infty } $$‐norm, the energy‐to‐peak gain, the peak‐to‐peak gain, or a ...

Riesz Bases of Root Vectors of Indefinite Sturm-Liouville problems with eigenparameter dependent boundary conditions, I [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We consider a regular indefinite Sturm-Liouville problem with two self-adjoint boundary conditions, one being affinely dependent on the eigenparameter.

Towards a Sustainable Future: Addressing Climate Change and Promoting Sustainable Development

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze policy research and global agreements on the decarbonization of economic development. Climate change and economic development are separate and equal, and strategies should separate responsibility from action. This will be required beyond the Kyoto and Paris agreements.

Non-real eigenvalues of symmetric Sturm–Liouville problems with indefinite weight functions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2017
The present paper deals with non-real eigenvalues of regular Sturm–Liouville problems with odd symmetry indefinite weight functions applying the two-parameter method.
