Active singling out of shunt independence
Child's Nervous System, 1994The availability of telemetric devices for intracranial pressure (ICP) measurements in line with a multipurpose valve (MPV) was shown to be the ideal condition for safe investigation of the problem of shunt independence in 21 patients. After percutaneous closure of the shunt, all but 4 patients developed some degree of intracranial hypertension.

Growth Factor-Dependent and -Independent Activation of mTORC2
Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2020The target of rapamycin complex 2 (TORC2) was discovered in 2002 in budding yeast. Its mammalian counterpart, mTORC2, was first described in 2004. Soon thereafter it was demonstrated that mTORC2 directly phosphorylates Akt on Ser473, ending a long search for the elusive 'second' insulin-responsive Akt kinase.

A Direct, Plasmin Independent Assay For Plasminogen Activation
Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1981We have modified the direct, 125I-plasminogen cleavage assay for plasminogen activator (PA) and employed it to compare urokinase (UK), tissue activator (TA), and PAs produced by cultured bovine aortic endothelial cells. The assay is based on conversion of single chain plasminogen to two chain plasmin as revealed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in

Evidence for the Ligand-Independent Activation of the AH Receptor
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1995Benzimidazole derivatives are potent inducers of CYP1A1 in rabbit and human hepatocytes, but apparently do not bind the AH receptor. To resolve this paradoxical behaviour, studies have been concerned with the question of whether an alternative ligand-independent mechanism could explain the activation of the AH receptor.

Assistive Technology for Active and Independent Aging
2019Due to a rising number of older population groups, there is a need to prolong an active life of elderly people, who are ready and want to lead active and quality life in a sense of their inclusion, socialization and independence. Especially, the independence in their everyday activities is crucial for them.
