Transmembrane-type growth factors, such as transforming growth factor–α (TGF-α), can exert their effects locally on neighboring cells, or at a distance if they are cleaved from the cell surface. This shedding process is thought to be mediated by cell surface metalloproteases.

Abstract Let Y be a paracompact Hausdorff space. We characterize those shape morphisms from X to Y which are induced by continuous maps from X to Y.

Pathogen-Induced MAP Kinases in Tobacco
2000The activation of two tobacco MAP kinases, SIPK and WIPK, by a variety of pathogen-associated stimuli and other stresses have been analyzed (Table 1). SIPK was activated by SA, a CWD carbohydrate elicitor and two elicitins from Phytophthora spp, bacterial harpin, TMV, and Avr9 from Cladosporium fulvum.

Residual behavior of induced maps
Israel Journal of Mathematics, 1996Given a Lebesgue probability space \((X,{\mathcal F}, \mu,T)\) and \(A\in {\mathcal F}\) one can define the induced map \(T_A:A\to A\) by \(T_A(x)= T^{r(x)}(x)\) where \(r(x)= \min \{i>0 \mid T(x)\in A\}\). For ergodic \(T\) and a residual set of \(A\) the authors give a number of results investigating the type of transformation \(T_A\) is. The results

Normal Maps Induced by Linear Transformations
Mathematics of Operations Research, 1992We study a certain piecewise linear manifold, which we call the normal manifold, associated with a polyhedral convex set, and a family of continuous functions, called normal maps, that are induced on this manifold by continuous functions from Rn to Rn.
