On admission, she had a right fourth nerve palsy and paraesthesiae of the right ear lobe, nose, limbs and trunk. Deep tendon reflexes were slightly brisker on the left side. The IC receives parallel ascending connections from a multiplicity of brainstem nuclei, together with descending projections from the cerebral cortex. Its output supplies the auditory thalamus and tectum.
