Wakefulness-promoting role of the inferior colliculus

Behavioural Brain Research, 2013
The inferior colliculus (IC) is a mesencephalic auditory nucleus involved in several functions including the analysis of the frequency and intensity of sounds as well as sound localization. In addition to auditory processes, the IC controls the expression of defensive responses.

The Commissural Neurons of the Inferior Colliculus of the Rat

Cells Tissues Organs, 1984
During systematic observation of the cellular subnuclei of the inferior colliculus of adult rats, it was noted that in the zone of the intercollicular commissure, numerous neuronal perikaria appear intermingled between the commissural fibers. The neurons were studied using Golgi and TEM methods and classified according to their dendritic pattern in the

Crossed and descending projections to the inferior colliculus

Neuroscience Letters, 1980
Crossed and descending projections to the inferior colliculus of the cat were studied following injections of horseradish peroxidase. Earlier injections of large (about 1 microliter) volumes and diaminobenzidine histochemistry were fully confirmed with later small volume injections and tetramethylbenzidine histochemistry.
