Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

DDX3X induces mesenchymal transition of endothelial cells by disrupting BMPR2 signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Elevated DDX3X expression led to downregulation of BMPR2, a key regulator of endothelial homeostasis and function. Our co‐immunoprecipitation assays further demonstrated a molecular interaction between DDX3X and BMPR2. Notably, DDX3X promoted lysosomal degradation of BMPR2, thereby impairing its downstream signaling and facilitating endothelial‐to ...

The effect of salubrinal on the endoplasmic reticulum stress pathway in heat‐stressed spermatogonial cells in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigates the protective role of salubrinal against heat‐induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in mouse spermatogenic cells (GC1 and GC2). By modulating the ER stress pathway, salubrinal alleviates cellular stress and supports spermatogenic cell survival, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for heat‐related infertility.

Effects of Infertility Insurance Mandates on Fertility [PDF]

open access: yes
Infertility currently affects over 6 million individuals in the United States. While most health insurance plans nationwide do not cover infertility diagnoses or treatments, to date fifteen states have enacted some form of infertility insurance mandate ...

Effect of metabolic and antioxidant supplementation on sperm parameters in oligo-astheno-teratozoospermia, with and without varicocele: a double-blind placebo-controlled study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Since sperm require high energy levels to perform their specialised function, it is vital that essential nutrients are available for spermatozoa when they develop, capacitate and acquire motility.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Syndromic infertility.

open access: yesActa bio-medica : Atenei Parmensis, 2019
Infertility due to genetic mutations that cause other defects, besides infertility, is defined as syndromic. Here we describe three of these disorders for which we perform genetic tests. 1) Hypopituitarism is an endocrine syndrome characterized by reduced or absent secretion of one or more anterior pituitary hormones with consequent dysfunction of the ...

BMI‐1 modulation and trafficking during M phase in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The schematic illustrates BMI‐1 phosphorylation during M phase, which triggers its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In cycling cells, BMI‐1 functions within the PRC1 complex to mediate H2A K119 monoubiquitination. Following PTC596‐induced M phase arrest, phosphorylated BMI‐1 dissociates from PRC1 and is exported to the cytoplasm via its

Evaluating the effectiveness and adverse effects of oral versus transdermal estradiol for endometrial preparation in frozen-thawed embryo transfer: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesMiddle East Fertility Society Journal
Background Endometrial preparation significantly influences the success of embryo transfer procedures. Although both oral and transdermal estradiol are common methods for endometrial priming, their efficacy and potential side effects remain uncertain ...
